Question 275/40/20s Question

Can we put 275/40/20s on both front and back tires with the stock rim. Seems that adding 30 millimeters/ 3 centimeters which is over an inch to the front would cause the tire to bulge out. Does the lower profile 40 help with this? Do I need 9.5" wheels?

I jumped the gun and replaced the fronts with Toyo 245/45/20, so it will be another 20k or so miles before I swap them out, but I will be replacing my backs soon enough and will start by staggering the 275/40/20. I just need to know if the stock wheels can handle the 275s in front and rear.

Thanks guys,
Britt

It would handle it like a champ. I had that setup on my last srt8 and worked perfectly.

I have them on all 4 paws, and it is difficult to lose traction without power braking now.
No rubbing issues, and the bulge you are referring to is not unsightly, and will help protect your rims from curbs that decide to 'run out and get in your way'.

Also they were cheaper than the 245's in my case

Great to know... only wished I would have held off on the Toyo 245/45/20s. Nice tire, just not the size I would have chosen. At 21,000 miles, I discovered that my front right tire had worn all the way to the threading, so I panicked and just replaced the same size I had.

My rears still look pretty good... maybe 5k or so left on them.

Thanks guys...

The 275/40/20s are the exact same height as the stock 245/45/20 so there is no rubbing concern at all. The little extra width is at the pavement where it needs to be, not near the suspension.
