SRT-8 Replacement Brake Pads: Available through Schucks Auto Parts?
Hello everyone, before I'm castrated for another brake post in the SRT section please read that this only in regards to SRT8 BRAKE PADS. For those that want OE pads, dust, scoring, and all we run into a big problem, the dealer. A local dealer in the Seattle area has quoted me over $400.00 for just pads. I refuse to pay that much when I bought my SRT8 with the mindset "performance bargin". Dave Z. has a nice package for under $200, but I prefer the aggressive nature of the OE pads. Call me crazy, but I prefer maximum stopping power over low dust and scoring.
In my search for OE pads at an affordable price I started with Brembo. No luck, only info on rotors and full systems. Then I heard the reference of Jurid being thrown around in pad discussions. I looked it up and found it to be Bendix's European brand name. Going to Bendix I looked up our app and came up with front and rear pads that have matching Chrysler part numbers. They are SRT8 specific and have the rear shims. I took those part numbers to Online Auto Parts and Auto Accessories Store at PartsAmerica.com (CSK Auto Parts) and presto!, came up with matching OE pads for cheaper than Dave Z.'s posi-quiets. Not knocking Dave's product, just not my cup of tea.
I'm pretty sure all of my research lines up, but feel free to point out any holes in my story. My goal here was to find OE pads that don't include dealer mark-up or the cost of an inefficient supply chain in the price. Below are the part numbers and prices.
OE SRT8 Brake Pads
Front: $65.99
Bendix: MKD1149
Chrysler: 5174311AC
Rear: $65.99
Bendix: MKD592A

Can't say I know anything about the performance aspect or the low dust characteristics of them, but most of us here are using Centric Posi Quiet pads from DaveZ who's a supporting vendor here.
Actually it probably would have been better to put this in the Brake Discussion forum IMO, as Dave would more likely to see it there. It's not that he'd try to pressure or sway you in his direction, but rather to offer his professional opinion of the pads you've selected. He's offered his objective findings many times here on this subject without looking for a sale.

Whoa - let us know if those are the real deal. I need new pads soon at 17k miles, especially on the rear. That's definitely the lowest price I've seen for them, by a large margin.
Eric

That appears to be a great deal that you've found. But please let me interject for a moment about the Centric Posi Quiets: The performance of these pads is 95% of what you will get out of the stock pads, with about 95% less brake dust and no scoring of the rotors whatsoever. You really only need the stock pads if you are going to be tracking your car, since they really are racing pads. In that case, just swaps the stock pads back in for the track run, then put the Centric's back on at the end of the day. It takes less than 5 minutes to swap them out at each wheel. That way you'll save your rotors and not have to be wiping down the dust after just a few miles of driving.
I need a new set of track pads and i really like the OEM ones.
Thanks NR, after posting I decided to get some more evidence. I'm still waiting to here from Bendix, but Brembo did confirm what I've been reading. I talked with Brandon Miller in their aftermarket division. He explained Brembo in no way makes their own brake pads. Even the GT upgrade kits are supplied with outsourced pads from Ferodo (a subsidiary of Federal Mogul). Any pad that has the Brembo logo stamped on it merely means that it meets Brembo specifications.
When Chrysler came to Brembo, they gave them a list of specs that the total system needed to meet. Brembo in turn developed the system around those specs and sourced one of their suppliers for the pads. I asked Brandon (Brembo) what it meant when our OE replacement pads were listed with a Jurid friction material. He responded saying that it most likely meant the supplier for the Brembo spec pads. And since Jurid is Bendix, it's looking good for this to be the real deal.
Eric, I know those pics well. That's one of the places I ran into Jurid and started thinking. Don't quote me until Bendix confirms my research and what Brembo said, but it sounds like a dream come true. OE pads at bargin basement prices. Save a set for me, I plan on putting in my order in a week. In my searches I also found our cabin air filter for $20 instead of the dealer's $50 filter.

When I was looking for extra pads for my car I looked at bendix. I actually had my girlfriend go to Autobarn with the part numbers to see if they had them. The sale guy looked up the #'s and told her he only can get the rears. The fronts were not at any of his distibutors. Looks like they are available now.
