I recently had a problem with a diesel fuel leak from the injection pump on my Audi A4 1.9TDI. A couple of garages gave me the runaround by suggesting I needed a new pump (big money here). I then took the car to a diesel specialist who said they would get their pump expert to have a look. The expert turned out to be a young lady who was extremely knowledgeable (a bit like Vinny's girlfriend in the movie) and who pronounced that only some new seals would be needed. When the young lady was replacing the engine cover, I asked her to make sure she didn't over-tighten the nuts as I know the A/V mounts can be easily sheared. She gave me a withering look, as if I were a complete idiot, and said "of course I won't over-tighten, I'm a woman aren't I?" Needless to say, she did an excellent job and at a fair price.

She thinks it's funny she can do an oil change (and swap brakes) and her "boyfriend" would have trouble putting gas in the car.

Actually, she did everything from jacking up the car to verifying the torque on each lug nut at the end. I supervised and helped clean the wheels while they were off and helped clean up the calipers to get as much of the old dust off as we could. She was a little leary of taking a hammer anywhere near the car (she knows me well) but after she punched the 1st pin, it was all good from there.

We opted for the PosiQuiet pads from Dave and had some fun bedding them in. I think we may have over-done it a bit since on the last hard braking run, we left a huge cloud of smoke! I was surprised at how much dust we had after the bedding run but I'm figuring it is the residual from the old pads clearing out. I'll have a better idea of how much dust is normal after I clean up the car this weekend to base-line it.

Great story!

I'll have to admit....

Seeing my baby girl, covered in brake dust....

Nearly brought a tear to my eye!

It's funny that she thinks her friends parents are retarded for paying someone to change their oil. I try to explain the convenience factor, but she wonders how they know it's done right.....

Some peoples kids.....

Your daughter's wisdom exceeds her years. Sounds like she's pointed in the right direction.

My 15 year old daughter is a driver in training also. It's up to us to teach them what we can!
