Rotor Wear

Took the car down to the dealership 10:30 this morning and got the exact response that I suspected I would. Service technician came over to help me and I told him ( and showed him) the brakes. He agreed with me on the rotor wear being accessive. Since his service center would have to order the parts he calls over a service manager to look at the car. He takes one look and tells me that this wear is considered normal (I'll have pictures up sometime shortly for my wife has misplace the cable I need to import them into the computer). He then goes on to tell me that "this is a high end sport braking system and they're supposed to do that". I tell him that I've owned two cars that had Brembo systems on them and I had never seen scoring like this at 20,000 miles on either system ( the 8 has just under 3000 ).

i know I am not the first person to bring this up and my rotors look as bad if not worse than those of you who have posted about this before. I can also honestly say that the service manager was very cool about the issue except for the fact that in closing he also made it a point to tell me "it could be due to your driving style". I have become a certifiable Autostick junkie since picking the car up and if anything I've been particularly easy on the brakes since I saw the first posts about this problem.

I got to him print an invoice that reads " customer complaint -rotor scoring. Service manager spoke with customer diagnosed and found all operating as designed, no repairs needed." So now I'm off to DCX headquarters to document the problem with them. If any of you are noticing a similar pattern, please see your service center so we can get enough reports for DCX to have to deal with this.

You know, it seems like it would be real simple for some DC folk (they have visited this site before, right, and replied, right) to come on here and tell us the facts. I am sure they know very well what is happening here.

Probably afraid of fallout if they are too forthright.

Same problem, but only after 350 miles, and most highway. So the consensus is to go to the dealer, and demand new rotors?? if thats the case, maybe ill wait until they get really bad?

Holy Mackerel!! That's amazing. Doesn't say much for Brembo's.

I understand that the system itself it SUPPOSED to be an aggressive system, but THAT"S AGGRESSIVE. All we can do is keep letting the dealers know that we feel this is in fact a problem and take it to DCX directly. DCX certainly doesn't want a recall much less one that has to do with a brake system, but the pictures don't lie. car has only been driven for about two months.

After I finish my email to Chrysler they will be next on the list.

I have about 1000 miles on our car and it too has significant grooving in the rotors. I don't want to have the rotors replaced just yet but I did want to document the condition with Chrysler should the rotors need to be replaced at some point. I made sure the Service Manager saw the grooving and had it entered into the repair history of the car. Hopefully, DCX will acknowledge the problem and institute some type of repair/replacement program in conjunction with Brembo.

From the photos, looks more like brake material building on to the iron rotors in ridges.

The rotors are harder than the pad material. The pad material appears to be a racing type, designed for hi temp operation. Normal driving is probably causing great amounts of brake dust and ridging. Just my 2 cents, but unacceptable, either way.

Hopefully, DCX will have a better pad compound soon.
