Air Bag Questions

Hey all. I just picked up a new BB 300C on Monday and I've been reading over these forums hardcore (more hardcore than before I owned the C!). I'm incredibly interested in the Air Bag setup but I have a few questions first.

1) Can you customize the different settings for high/medium/low?

2) How much is the entire setup with installation? I live in SoCal so I figure U.A.S. is the place to go (heard great things!).

3a) Can it only be adjusted while the ignition is off (except for the startup ride height)? Meaning, if I'm rolling at a normal cruising height (let's say medium) and I want to drop it for the ladies... am I going to have to turn the car off?

3b) If I do drop it, will I be able to pick it up again right away or am I going to have to wait (assuming I'm at a full tank before the initial drop)?

4) How is the actual handling of the car. I havn't seen much concerning this, and I'm really interested to know how the car feels during cornering. I'm not looking for any type of sport suspension, but I'd like to know if it feels sloppy in turns or if it feels better than stock (which feels a bit sloppy!).

5) What is the probability of leaks... and in what sort of time frame can I expect one (if any)... and if it does goes out, am I completely dead in the water?

6) I hear about 22"s (certain ones at least on 35's) rubbing, and I'm wondering how often this happens and in what circumstances. Will it be a common occourance at medium ride height?

7) For those of you with 22"s and the Air Bag setup, how do you feel about it? Do you feel more in control of the car or less in control? This is one of the most important things to me because I'm weighing Air Bags versus one set slammed height... both have their pros and cons (cost, functionality, practicality etc).

8) Anything I should know? Good/Bad/Ugly?

I really appreciate all of the help you all give to new posters (like myself). Thanks in advance for anyone that takes the time to put my mind at ease =D.

Hello Ben,

Congratulations on your brand new 300c! Isn't it nice to have a forum like this one to do quality research before taking the plunge!

I'm certainly not the one to answer all your questions but recommend you call Zack at UAS. He has been very helpful to forum members.

Hopefully, some members here will chime in with their experience. Hemmissey is one who comes to mind since he recently had this mod. done on his classy 300C.

Anyway, welcome to the forum!

Hey, thanks all! I've heard (read) a lot about Zach and I can't wait to talk to him. However, since he is in the business of selling the Air Bag systems, I figured I should get the opinions of the end user before taking the plunge myself. That's not to say I don't trust Zach's expert opinion either (he sounds like an exceptionally straightforward guy), but it sounds like more than a few of you 300 owners are sporting the Air Bags so it would be good to get the personal experiences as well. From what I've read (even just concerning 20's vs 22's), it really looks like everyone has different experiences (both positive and negative).

Thanks again for the replies.

1) Can you customize the different settings for high/medium/low? I don't have that, I just look at the digital gauge to set the air pressure. It took me a bit to get used to the settings for driving.

2) How much is the entire setup with installation? I live in SoCal so I figure U.A.S. is the place to go (heard great things!).You will have to talk to Zack about that.

3a) Can it only be adjusted while the ignition is off (except for the startup ride height)? Meaning, if I'm rolling at a normal cruising height (let's say medium) and I want to drop it for the ladies... am I going to have to turn the car off? You can adjust it when the car is on or off. There is also a key that comes with the controller, I use it for when I park my car. Someone tries to break in, they won't be able to lift it!! Would'nt you want to drop your pants for the ladies!!! LOL!!!! It all depends how wide your wheels are. I can't do that because it will rub.

3b) If I do drop it, will I be able to pick it up again right away or am I going to have to wait (assuming I'm at a full tank before the initial drop)? You could lift it bak up, I think you could do it 4 times b4 the tank has to fill up again.

It handles GREAT!!!!! I am not a speed demon!!!! I drive casually!!!!! To be honest it rides beter then stock suspension. LOL!!! I had my 22's last year with stock suspension and it does feel waaaaaaaaaay better!!!!

5) What is the probability of leaks... and in what sort of time frame can I expect one (if any)... and if it does goes out, am I completely dead in the water? I don't have any leaks. My friend that installed it did some tests. Don't think about that because you will not enjoy it!!!!

6) I hear about 22"s (certain ones at least on 35's) rubbing, and I'm wondering how often this happens and in what circumstances. Will it be a common occourance at medium ride height? I have 265 35 22 Kumho's with 22x9.5 wheels and the offset is positive 15. I had to roll back a bit in the front part of the fender. I don't rub when I am driving because I adjust the height so I don't rub. That's why I LOVE air ride (U.A.S.)!! I have 35 series tires so it does hit the inner fender shroud when I pancake it, no major problem. I am not going to buy 30's for that, waste of money!!!!

7) For those of you with 22"s and the Air Bag setup, how do you feel about it? Do you feel more in control of the car or less in control? This is one of the most important things to me because I'm weighing Air Bags versus one set slammed height... both have their pros and cons (cost, functionality, practicality etc). I LOVE it!!!!!!! I don't drive like Paul Tracey, so I am o.k. with my 22's!!!!!! It is really comfortable!!!!!

8) Anything I should know? Good/Bad/Ugly?
VERY GOOD!!!!!!! NOT BAD, SORRY I MEANT EXCELLENT!!!!! DEFINATELY NOT UGLY!!!! LOL!!!

I really appreciate all of the help you all give to new posters (like myself). Thanks in advance for anyone that takes the time to put my mind at ease =D.

As a very pleased customer of Zachs, I will answer your questions the best I can.

1) Yes, you can customize the hi/med/low heights.

2) Zach would best inform you of the price.

3a) I dont have that set up, but I have a similar set up with just one auto setting from Dakota Digital and yes you can use it while your driving. In fact, it doesn't work when the ignition is off. I dont know if the one your refering to does the same, but I'll bet it does.

3b) Yes, you can drop it and lift it rigt away.

4) Handling is great. Corners beautifully. I do race the car and I love the way it handles. No bounce. As a matter of fact, I am typing this message in the back seat of my 300C coming home from Vegas while my friend is driving with no problems and in comfort.

5) Leaks?? What are those? I have yet to hear of anybody experiencing leaks that got it done from UAS. Possible?? Sure.... Dont count on it though. If it were to, you would not be dead in the water. The aftermath would depend on where your leak was. If it was in the tank, nothing would happen until you dropped it. Then you just couldn't lift it. If it was one of the bags, it would only be that corner and you can still drive (not really well though).

6) I also have 22"s with 35's. They do not rub at all at medium height. The wheel wells do rest on the tires when its layed out though. You do have to be sure to have your tires straight when you do lower it.

7) I absolutely love the bags with my 22"s.

8) Here's what you should know. If you get the bags, you will love it. They are a blast.

Have fun. Hope I helped. -E

Hey DUBSTER and E, thanks a ton. It sounds like you can customize the lowest height to a range where it doesn't rub at all but still look flat. I really want that flat look when cruising like 2-10 mph without worrying about it tearing up my tires hah. I'm looking into the 22's with 35's. That extra -5 on the 30's doesn't really sound worth it.

Another thing I forgot to ask was about replacement bags. I only ask because I'm incredibly concerned with being stuck somewhere if one somehow managed to spring a drastic leak (enough so it wouldn't stay inflated long enough to drive). I know rubber eventually ages and cracks over time. I'm also aware that the bags from UAS are oil resistant and I'm sure they are manufactured with that in mind... but the question is, does anyone know the life expectancy of the bags?

Also, if I decided to remove it for any reason... can the springs be thrown right back on in place of the bags? Sounds like it, but I want to be 100% sure.

I can't think of anything else really... other than... what would happen if one of the bags blew out at 100 MPH =D.

Thanks for the replies!

Hey all, one more question and then I think I'm gonna make the call to UAS. How has the left/right handling changed? I mean, when you take corners at a brisk pace, do you notice more or less roll than standard. I honestly won't settle for anything LESS than the current setup (because... it's at least the default) but I would definitely be impressed and motivated by better handling.

Do either of you have pics of your cars at low, medium, and high heights? Thanks!

Take a look on my website we have alot of pictures up on there. Typically you will notice a DRASTIC reduction in the body roll compared to stock!
