Just wondering, amongst other things, whether or not this car has posi or limited slip differential. I suppose I could go out and do a burnout (turn off the ESP, stoopid! ) but I thought somebody out there would know.
I know this isn't exactly a suspension question but the diff does hook up to the suspension.
Anybody out there know? Thanks in advance for assisting a newbie.

It's a open diff. meaning the power is getting sent to only 1 of the rear wheels.
I'll start doing research on a posi unit for it then. I'll bet the Eaton folks or Detroit Locker folks might have something, or are in development and will have something.
Well the reason for doing this is they stole the technology from the mercedes e55(atleast in the srt8 version) where the esp will apply the brake to the rear wheel that is slipping. It's a cheap alternate to a lsd.
There is no posi for our cars, atleast not to my knowledge. But quaife does have a limited-slip diff for us.
MAD DOG-
Will is certainly right about the open diff, but if you do a burnout you will see two stripes... Daimler saved some money but they did do a pretty good job making up for it in technology. They use the ABS system to clamp the spinning wheel's brake and equalize traction. It works quite well, but a true LSD is better.
Quaife is the only one available to my knowledge. Do a search here under Quaife and you will find info on it.

Tork Monster is right, It's a joint effort of the esp and the abs braking system to apply the brakes to the wheel that is spinning distributing the power evenly. Thanks for the correction Jay....
I am not sure about the other 300Cs but the SRT8 does have a LSD. The following are the published specs:
DRIVETRAIN Transmission: 5-speed automatic with manumatic shifting
Final-drive ratio: 3.06:1, limited slip
Gear, Ratio, Mph/1000 rpm, Max test speed
I, 3.59, 7.5, 48 mph (6400 rpm)
II, 2.19, 12.3, 79 mph (6400 rpm)
III, 1.41, 19.2, 123 mph (6400 rpm)
IV, 1.00, 27.0, 173 mph (6400 rpm)
V, 0.83, 32.6, 172 mph (5300 rpm)
In addition, there is no way you can spin both rear wheels consistently (with the ESP off) without some form of LSD. It is, however, a clutch based system.
I know for sure the srt engineers said its a open diff and they are numerous guys here who changed from the factory open to the quaife. I have video of me doing a one wheel burn out at e-town on more than on occasion.
I'm looking for throught srt chat session to find the post where the srt engineers stated that it's a open diff and as explain above by tork monster and myself is what is the substitute for it.....Danno your assistance is needed
