The tire side wall is an active element of the suspension. The shorter the sidewall the firmer the ride. Then the brand of the tire / sidewall design kicks is another wild card. Some sidewalls by design are softer riding. The more aggressive the tire as a general rule the firmer the sidewall. That would explain to some degree why one owner would have a different evaluation of what firm and hard are on a similar profile but different brand tire. The final variable is the owner -- what is perfectly acceptable to one could be unbearable to others. It would be interesting to get the driving impressions of different brands same size wheel and rubber in a thread or at an event.
