22's Washboard Effect At 75 - 80...

Has anyone had problems with a slightly rougher ride after putting on 22's?

I feel more bumbs and also at about 75 or 80 it sorta feels like I'm running across washboards...not sure if that is related to the 22's but I don't remember feeling that with the stock tires.

Has anyone been able to modify anything and smooth out the ride with 22's on?

I tried searching on this but came up empty..

Thanks!

Lots of reports of tire shake at 70-80 mph with 22's on the site. I'll look for some links, but:

Try to get the tires 'road force balanced'. Check your good tire shops for this service.

What wheels are you running? They may need hub centric rings to help center them on the rotor.

Yes, you will have a rougher ride no question, but I think it's more than tolerable.

What profile of tire you runnin'?

No much you can do other than get some adjustable shocks (like KW V2s or Teins) and crank down the rebound.

Thanks Cueball!

Not sure how I missed those. I'm running Gitana Pinnacles, not exactly sure on the tires. I'd have to get the receipt. Just a few days old though...

They did a rush job because it was near closing so it very well could be that they are not balanced good enough. I'm going to try both alignment and balancing and see what happens.

Thanks!

Thanks Teahead...if the balancing and alignment doesn't do it I'll look into the shocks...

Along the same lines, does anyone think that vibration with heavier wheels would be less noticeable on an SRT8 due to the stiffer springs and dampening?

The stock 300 or 300c suspension is pretty soft and I think you would feel more vibration through a softer suspension and less through a harder suspension. Mind you I am only talking about vibrations from the heavy wheel itself, not a rough road, that is a different story.

I have 22's on my SRT8, and I do not get any vibration at high speeds at all !! I have Dunlop SportMaxx tires size 265/35ZR22. I do notice a little rougher ride (bumps) than with the original tires, but not enough to make a difference to me.

I drove an Magnum for 2 years with 22's and had not had a problem at all except for the slight vibes at about 80. You get used to it, I guess, after a year. The best part is no rubbing at all though!

For sure You feel the road surface more. Quick Redneck balance check is to get on highway cruise at speed where vibration is worst then hit the gas if vibration is less under acceleration its your front wheel balancing out of whack. Happened to me when I had mine installed.(often sticky weights come off)
