Think of the damage a blown tank could do in your wheel well. It would blow out the floor easy.

Yeah, I dont know about this. Something just doesn't seem right. I think there is more to the story then what was explained there. The first link says only 150psi did that damage. I push 225 psi with my nitrogen with no problems. I've been through 5 bagged cars with out a single tank so much as leaking. And I know many people that hop their trucks with these very tanks installed, and the only thing they blow are bags. Something just smells a little fishy with that. I would say that they aren't using air, but you can see the pumps directly connected to the tanks. Just wierd.

Thanks for the links though, those are some pretty crazy pictures, no matter how it happened.

Yeah, this definitely isn't anything new. I've seen/heard of these stories plenty of times on the forums. Like every person states in those posts, not every stainless tank is made by the same company. I'm sure it's like anything else, quality varies among manufacturers.

you would be suprised at the sheer forces inside those tanks. Think of it this way, a small bag in the back of your car uses 70psi to get the car up. If you increase the volume the pressure needed goes down. So imagine a volume of 5 gallons @ 200 psi and what kind of force that is exerting on the cylinder walls. if you had a 5 gallon air bag under your car it would take all of 15 psi or less to lift it.

It's just a thought from my end on this but I notice alot of rust built up inside each one of the blown tanks my opinion is there were no water traps used and caused water to build up and blow the tanks just a thought I dont know much about that kinda stuff though....

On the stainless that is not rust, the discoloration you see is caused from the welding of the materials. The first one is not a stainless tank but a chrome steel tank which will rust inside regardless. No matter how much watter accumulates in the tanks it will never cause them to blow. DOT stamped tanks are rated for usually 3x their operating psi as a burst psi. Most DOT stamped tanks are rated to 150 but people put much higher psi to them because their construction is certified and approved whereas these tanks that blew were made in China.
