OEM rear xmember bushing causing big disconnect at rear suspension

We have been working for some time on the LX platform and have solutions for just about every suspension concern. One of the big ones is the rear suspension disconnect from the body. You can drive a 300 for example and do a seried of left/right turns. You can feel the back end move. Feels like a orbital steering. What happens is the 4 rubber OEM bushes that mounts the entire rear cradle assembly allows a lot of side to side movement. Replacing these bushes with our Pedders bush virtually eliminates any side to side movement. Attached is a video showing the amount of movement. Also notice the damage to the rubber stops.

When I have the new Pedders bushes installed, I will post it so you can see the difference.

We used a 1/4 inch rod to make the movement. You literally can move the center ferrule of the OEM bush with your fingers, let alone a 4300 lb car. Also note the metal to metal contact on the bushing outer steel sleeve

Any questions, please respond

I just ordered these cradle bushings and alot of other parts from you. Ever since taking my rear cradle down to install the rear sway it has had a "disconnected" shifting and then thud in the rear when I take off. I chased through every possibility, loose bolts, bad diff, motor mount... found nothing. Neither could the shop. I truly think it's these busted bushings letting the whole cradle shift. What's your expert oppinion?

Also what is required to get them out of the cradle and install yours? I appreciate your help arming me before she's on the lift and gutted.

Mike,

How many miles were on the car and was there a clicking or creaking noise when going over bumps?

Pete knows about the problem I am having and I've been chasing it down for almost a year.

Thanks,

Richie

Hey Richie,

I am not 100% sure how many miles ae on this vehicle, but I can tell you there are some seriously hard miles on this LX. The bushings belonged to the MEISTER. he is not noted for taking his LX to the grocery store and back. Also his diff bushings were in very serious shape. We replaced all of them at the same time.

But can tell you, we have seen tons and tons of these bushes bad like Jim's. New bushings can be moved with your fingers! This is normal. Before you invest, however, I would take your LX to have one of the Pedders dealers check it out. Bob is in Florida and has done a number of LX/s In fact Pete is there now, doing a photo shoot for some performance magazines on a Pontiac G8. These bushings are challenging to remove unless you know how to do them. pedders and I have made special bushing recievers, and bushing press plates for their removal.

M camera battery went dead so I could not video the Pedders Xmember bushes. But there was literaly no movement.

Take care

Thanks for getting back to me Mike, I've been to Precision a few times.

They recently swapped my steering rack bushings , front lower control arm bushings and radius rod bushings.

I have KW V2's and the noise started a year after I installed them, KW sent me a replacement shock which was thought to be the cause of the noise.

The noise still resonates from the driver's side rear shock tower. Next week I'm going to replace the lower spring isolators and inspect the spring adjusters and springs.

Here's a video if the noise when the suspension is compressed.

The boys at Precision are great. I spent a bunch of time with them at SEMA last year and in fact talekd to them today!!. So I would suggest you call the ASAP, find out if Pete will be there tomorrow, go there and have them check out your ride. When you see Pete, ask him where my bars are!!!. He will laugh and I am sure say something dirogatory about me!! All i good funLOL
