i also have had the clunking noise n i hate it. first i gave my mechanic $700 to fix it, it worked, but now its returned a year an a half later to haunt me again. i read up on this forum about the sway bar bushings being a hidden noise maker... so i changed em out myself today and TADA! $20.34 later, the noise is gone.... except a little rattle from one tie rod end that i noticed, but thats a time waster for tomorrow. my lesson learned is not to go to mechnics lol. the parts are cheap and the suspension work on these cars is basic enough, so DIY.
p.s.
my sisters b/f has the same car just with a lot less miles on it than mine, and hes seeing all the same probelms i was with it.

I just changed mine. It sounds a lot better, but there is some noise still their though. Going to install the Pedders kit soon maybe that will fix the rest.

PERFECT PERFECT PERFECT!!! I just got some parts for my car and I'll be installing them on monday. While I have it up in the air, I think I'll be putting on some new bushings. I HATE that noise. Thanks for the info. I actually logged on tonight with the intention of finding this answer and viola.

Do you have the stock suspension?

First suspect for clunking/popping would be the outer tie rods.
Then the sway bar endlinks.
Maybe inner tie rods.

It could be a lot of other things, but these are the first areas to look at.

I just picked up a pair of swaybar bushings for a grand total of $9.72....noooo...not a piece...TOTAL...from my local "stealership". Guess I'm stealing from them. YIPPEE!!! I'll be putting these on Monday. Good times.
