Have a laugh on me, maybe give some input, either way, have a great day!
Just got of the phone with Zach at UAS, had to order another pair of Viair 480 compressors, not fault of his that I have absolutely zero help here in Montana! (Thank you Zach for your over-the-phone-diagnosis!)
I seen to have an addiction to burning up the back plate (electronics) to my compressors, have lost count just how many Ive smoked, but anyway...
First time was a bad ground, Zach lead me to the chassis ground. 2 more back plates!
Next, running the subs at full capacity, while filling my tanks... learned the science of electricity...2 more back plates
Then failing to put antifreeze in my tank, in hopes that a combination of exhaust heat and continuos "switch hitting" would thaw the ice from frozen valves, well that was probably my fault. And cost me 2 more back plates,a soloniod, and pressure switch! lesson learned!
It seems there has been a few more lessons along the way, so now I am chassis ground, running no stereo(another story I suppose), have checked the power at the pump, and along the way....
And yet Saturday, I went out to find 1 compressor not running, the other at 20%. WTF, well why not, its par for my course!
So Ive had enough of replacing the back plates, decided to order a new set, and send the others in to Viair, now with any unlikely luck that may come my way, it will prove to be the compessors fault, not my own, and I will be the proud owner of 4 new Vair compressors( witch is exactly twice as many as I can manage to mess up now)
I hope you have all had a little laugh at my expense! I have to aswell, to keep from putting on normal springs and riding a stock height! I would do it all over again, in case you were wondring.
So what do you all suggest? either about burning these down, or running 4 compressors (which btw is my real question, the rest is for laughs) I realize I need another alternator/ battery, any suggestions on that set up?
Ever feel like you are all alone in your conquests?
How are your comps wired? I had mine grounded with the factory wire right next to the compressor and the power from both compressors connected to a 100a continuous duty solenoid. I used 4g wire to feed the solenoid and that is protected by a scosche fuse breaker.
In your situation I would recommend adding a relay to your pressure switch to allow you to turn the comps on and off if you don't want them running at a certain time. I know my comps hated the winter so I would drive around and leave my car at full lock and then when it warmed up i would turn the comps on. I was blowing fuses left and right from using wire that was too small plus dealing with the cold so the fuse breaker acts as a switch for me and I love it.

This is kinda off subject but, could you post pics of your setup. In particular how you are running the audio system with the bags. I bought my 300 about 2 years ago and was gonna use it solely as a daily driver and customize my truck....but I have the bug really bad and want to start modifying the 300 now. I have customized only trucks and SUVs before so this would be my first car and I just can't wrap my head around how to do both a bag setup and a nice sub system and still keep it neat.... any pics would be greatly appreciated.
That's quite a story carguy and a great start to posting at 300Cforums. Please consider making an intro post in the New Members section so that more folks can properly welcome you. With that said...
WELCOME from our West Virginia LXs in the Mid-Ohio River Valley!

In love with my first wife & first car ('68 Charger) ... still have the wife
but now there's the Heritage Edition and a Magnum SRT8!
MDPHD, its a mess right now,as I am working on it, but will get pics asap.
GROUNDED, I have the factory compressor wires grounded to the chassis ground, the postive factory wires to the solonoid (soloniod to Batt is 4 gauge) .
I dont have a problem with the pressure switch allowing it to run to often. We keep coming back to low amperage, would an inline fuse help that?

You should be fused between the solenoid and the battery. The solenoid is simply a switch an its only protection for your comps is if they burn up (which they won't). Sometimes if the comp draws too many amps (which can happen when the voltage dips because they are correlated) it can burn up its wiring. A fuse or circuit breaker will pop and protect the comps if the voltage draw of the 2 compressors combined is more then 80 amps. I know mine popped alot over the winter. I can see them drawing a ton of amps with your voltage dipping to nothing when your system is hammering.
I would get at least a beefier battery like the optima yellow top or kinetic. Then I would also upgrade the battery ground to 1/0.
Here is the math behind this...
lets say it takes 1120 watts to run your comps
1120W= 80A x 14v
should your voltage drop due to heavy bass or such your amperage will change
1120w= 96A x 12V
More amperage is needed to produce the same power with a lower voltage. The higher the voltage and lower the resistance the lower the amount of current is needed.
If anyone reads this and the math is wrong feel free to correct me but this is OHM's law.

most of the UAS bag setup can be placed inside of the spare wheel well which leaves the trunk free and clear.

So, what about wheel size? Can you tuck 24" on the 300, what about 22" wheels? What about wheel off-set, does it matter that much? How big of a tank to most people run? Do you usually run copper lining or soft hose?
Sorry for so many question... I'm really not bag-challenged, haha. I have a bagged chevy truck also. Actually thats the reason I got the 300. I bought my 300 new about 2 years ago and I was gonna use it just for a daily drive, so I started hacking on the truck. Well, I got busy with school and put the truck in storage. Now that I am getting some more free time, I really don't want to work on the truck anymore and I think I want to build the 300 instead... mainly because I've never customized a car before (never even owned a car until this one, only trucks and SUVs before).
