"Bump Steer" and Lower Control Arms

I have an '05 300C and I've been experiencing "bump steer" for the past couple months i.e. when I hit a bump at normal driving speeds the steering turns one way or the other on its own requiring me to correct the wheel.

A while back on an unrelated visit the stealership told me I had a broken lower control arm. After reading another post here, it sounds like cracked bushes/bushings are not that uncommon. Are new bushings likely all that I need? I understand that Chrysler doesn't sell the bushings seperate of the control arm but Pedders does.

Any insight would be appreciated. Thanks in advance.

The experts will reply giving the technical details, but I solve my problem
with bump steer by getting the kit from Pedders.

Basic kit you need would be the steering rack bushing which was
something like $81 dollars.

You also should check the radius rod bushing (chrysler calls it
tension strut). Those seem to go bad also. the kit for
these is $150 (or they were when I got it).

Just changing those out on my car cleared the problem completely.

Thanks. That's helpful. The prices you mention are for both sides, right? Anyone else? Want to replace the right parts and don't want to replace more than necessary.

Right, the part numbers are EP2113 for the steering bushing kit,
and EP6567 for the radius rod bushing kit.

That covers both sides for sure.

EDIT: there is a different bump steer kit if your car is AWD. The EP2113 is for the RWD.

Bump Steer is a very easy fix. Our Ep2113 and EP2113A for AWD steering gear bushing fixes the 13-15mm bump steer to a 0-2mm bump steer. A serious change.

Ok, but I don't think this is just run-of-the-mill factory design type bump steer. I'm getting A LOT of travel in my steering wheel. Since the dealer mentioned my control arms - could those bushings be the cause of my excessive bump steer?

Also, do you have a dealer/installer in the Dallas, TX area?

I guess you can get added bump steer with bad tension and lower control arm bushings,

We have multiple dealers in Texas:

Ok, well thanks. None of those dealers are particularly close to me. Can I assume that any competent suspension place can install these?

As long as they can read and have a 12 ton press, they can do it. I can be available for a phone call discussion with your shop if needed.
