basically the cv joint is the bit that drives your hub where your wheels are attached, they're on the end of the driveshaft/axleshaft and they have bellows covering them to protct them.Do you have a problem with yours?are they clicking when you take up drive?

"CV" stands for "Constant Velocity" joint. You have an inboard CV joint (at the differential) and an outboard CV joint (at the wheel) on each drive axle, so your car has 4 total. These Joints allow the wheels to move up and down and stay in alignment while the wheels are turning. On front wheel drive cars they also allow the wheels to steer. Typically you would replace the axle with a remanufactured unit rather than replace an individual CV joint.

"U-joint" stands for "Universal Joint". These are the joints used in the driveshaft between the transmission and the differential. They don't allow as much range of motion as a CV joint does and are less expensive. But they are still necessary since there is some movement of the drivetrain due to engine torque (twisting motion). The engine, transmission, and differential are all mounted by rubber mounts so there is some movement.

Hope this helps.

Here are a couple of pics of the half shafts inner and outer cv joints/boots.

The Service Manual gives these possible causes of rear-end vibrations:
Vibration at the rear of the vehicle is usually caused by a:
² Damaged propeller shaft.
² Missing propeller shaft balance weight(s).
² Worn or out-of-balance wheels.
² Loose wheel lug nuts.
² Worn U-joints or CV joints.
² Loose/broken springs.
² Damaged axle shaft bearing(s).
² Loose pinion gear nut.
² Excessive pinion yoke run out.
² Bent halfshaft(s).

Vibration could also be tranny.
Water in the transmission is known to cause vibrations.
There is this TSB.
