I'd like to lower my car a good 1" to an 1 1/2" but with AWD and independent suspension front and rear, I'm not sure how lowering the car will affect the suspension geometry. I've cut coils on older muscle cars with a lot of success, but I'm not sure about my new car.

Any suggestions and input would be great!

WOW SWEET!!

are they progressive springs? Did your car have the "Rake" when you first installed them? I think i am gunna cut it down to your height!!

I cut 3/4 coil out of the back springs and it only came down maybe an inch max.. still not level.

Any problems having the car this low? Alignment? Tires rubbing? noises?

thanks!!!!!
Lonnie

usually springs have a flat part at the bottom of the coil, so it will sit nicely in the coil bucket. when you cut that off, there's no flat spot anymore and the spring won't sit the way it used to.

although cutting springs is a really bad idea, its worst when someone uses a torch to cut the springs. the heat just kills springs. if you had the springs cut and they weren't bouncy, i bet someone used an angle grinder or a sawzall, which minimizes the amount of heat the spring steel endures.

Like the good Doc says, don't cut springs on these cars.

This thread on weight and chassis rigidity will give you some better idea on the suspension tuning.
