I'd still take it out and allow for more air to shoot up that hole into your AFE.

After removing my lower vent covers and the air silencer, I have been thinking about running some sort of tubing from the lower vent directly to the hole in the air box where the silencer used to attach - giving the air box a sort of "ram air" effect. I've heard some people have done this, but I've also heard that this could assist moisture getting into the box/filter as well - so I'm holding off for now until I research this idea a bit more.

No need for ramps - I took my fascia off and removed the air silencer with the wheels on the ground. It's not tough to remove the screws underneath as long as you are cool with laying on your back.
I'm stationed in the swamps of Georgia where it's currently raining. It rains here almost daily. Sadly, my new house doesn't have a garage so I'd be doing this on my wet driveway while crawling around with fire ants, snails, and these other strange bugs I've never seen before. I want a pair of ramps anyways just so I can crawl under the car and tinker with things much easier.

I took off my fascia as well to remove the silencer. Took 15 minutes. This way the bolt is easy to get to, you won't need an extension, and no ramps. Also with the fascia off its a good time to remove the drivers side lower baffle near the radiator to free up more airflow.

No Hobby Shop at the Base?
Get a creeper with the ramps so you can stay away from the bugs!

I'm used to doing everything myself at my old house in the garage. Standing in line for hours and/or waiting days to be put onto the waiting list just to get stall time while 9,000 other airman do the same just to do something simple on the car and having to pay for it = not too keen on that. I'll just go to a friends house that has a garage and knock some of this stuff out there.

Guess I got spoiled at the small base I was at. You could drive in and basically rent a stall for however long you needed. Guys would replace motors on the spot!

I'm at the smallest base I've ever seen in my 12 years. It's so small that I thought it was just a mini museum outside of the actual base! It actually makes getting things done harder because there's still nearly 10,000 people competing for stall time at a rediculously small hobby shop.

I drive past it every day and see people in there doing simple things that they could do at home and tie up the place with cleaning their air filters or removing rust from their trailer hitches ffs. Meanwhile everyone goes downtown and just pays a shop to do things that they could and should get done on base. Then you have hundreds of retirees and civilians using up your assets onbase and you the active duty guy is at the end of the line behind all of them. That's what kills me the most. Try getting a hair cut on your lunch break and seeing a spouse with five kids in there next to half a dozen old war vets. I just go downtown to some chick salon that's empty and pay twice as much because it's more convenient. Yes, I'm slightly disgruntled atm...lol
