trustworthy 300c mechanic in San Antonio?

Hey guys-

Newbie here...I have a friend in San Antonio, TX who owns a 300C Hemi, 2 years old, but out of warranty because of the mileage.

She's complaining of the transmission shifting unnecessarily, and issues with acceleration at highway speeds. It runs fine when driving in the city. Her oil change center told her there was a leak in the transmission, and when she took it to the dealer, they said a tranny replacement was necessary.

I don't know if the dealer is being honest. I'm not local to San Antonio, so I don't know my way around shops like I do in Dallas.

Any chance you could steer me towards a trustworthy mechanic who knows their way around the 300C's in San Antonio?

Lance

Also - is this common to the 300Cs? What else should I check for?

Welcome Lance! Of course it's impossible to diagnose her tranny problem online, but there's a good chance the leak is coming from the plug adapter - (68021352AA-description plug adapter 21003015).

This is a very well known problem and easily fixed, even DIY. Here's a thread to show you where it is and how to replace it - http://www.300cforums.com/forums/tec...ak-repair.html.

Depending on how long it's been leaking and how low the fluid was I'd say there's a good chance it may be as simple as this. One thing to note however is we don't have dipsticks and it requires a special tool to check the level.

My suggestion is to have her take it to another dealer and ask them to check the fluid level and look to see if the adapter plug is leaking. That's a start BEFORE considering a replaced transmission.

As a final note, pull fuse #11 in the front power distribution centre for about 30 seconds. That will clear the adaptive learning of the transmission control module.

Here's a pic of what to look for...

Do this periodically whenever the car feels like it wants to upshift too early and gets sluggish. Let us know how things turn out BTW.

Bernie - thanks so much for the reply....and you were on the money.

Yesterday (before I responded to her), my friend took the car to Quickfix Transmissions in San Antonio. He identified the same two problems, fixed it for $175, and she's running perfectly now.

So to close the thread for the San Antonio 300C owners...if you want a dealer alternative, this might fit the bill. He was honest before he knew he had to be.
