Drag racing in the heat... (Moved)

So what times are you guys running in 80 and 90+ degree temps? I'm finally getting a chance to go to Fontana, CA (California Speedway) this Saturday. Temps are supposed to be in the mid 90s. I'm figuring my first run will be between 9am-10am and the temp will probably close to 80. After that it only gets hotter. I really want a mid 12 sec pass, but I know these cars hate the heat. Just want to hear some thoughts on how they run in the 80s...

We'll be dealing with this in Columbus this weekend, I guess I plan on prepping the same way and seeing how it goes. Definitely going to be slower

Going early in the day may help, track may be slippery at that time though.

Edit: Another thought, when it's real hot racing gas is probably more valuable to resist premature detonation. I'm going to try to mix 2-2.5 gallons in my tank with 2 more gallons of 100 unleaded.

Here's a cool website I found for getting your desired octane rating.
MotorSports Racing Fuels - Racing Gas - Nitromethane - Methanol - Racing Lubricants - Additives - Race Fuels
I want about 10 gallons of gas in my tank of 94. I'm driving 80 miles to the track so I'll burn about 4 of those gallons. So I put about 3.5 gallons of 100 in to where I figure theres about 6-7 gallons of 91.

Another thing I'm going back and forth on is whether or not to now use the 93 CAI tune with the custom dyno tuned settings that were dialed in on my 91 CAI tune or to just leave the custom 91 CAI tune in... The first run is the critical one so there's no room for error on it. Its been hot and clear day and night so the morning run will be dry and 75 degrees if I'm one of the first to run around 9am. After the first group it will be about 2 hours til my second run so the second run will be in 90+ heat.

putting higher octane in your car is just wasting money unless the tune is specifically tuned for that specific octane number. if your going with 94 shouldnt you be using the 93 why would you consider the 91?and if your going with the 91 theres no reason to mix to 94, wasting money.
its best when going to the track to get a racing fuel tune..but it seems you havent gotten the CMR tune yet not sure def dont want to assume but when getting a CMR normal octane one should also get a raceing fuel one as well if there a track person.

Thanks for pointing out the obvious!(not being sarcastic) I'm one of the few who realizes there's less heat energy in higher octane. I just really want the fastest time possible. I'm going to do some data logging runs with the 93 CAI tune with my settings and see where the KR is.

Now I'm kicking myself. I just went out and did some runs using my gtech. Its slower. It was fastest running the 93 CAI tune with my dyno afr settings, but definitely about .2 tenths slower 0-60. I'll just go on a long drive tonight at 140 and burn through that gas and put some 91 back in that I'm tuned for. I SHOULD KNOW BETTER!!!!

I'll post my times from tomorrow.

since this thread is about heat...is it slower from the heat or the gas? what conditions were the other runs you're comparing to?

went to firebird in az on friday with mid 90 temps at 9pm and everyone was running over a half second slow because of the heat. the fastest srt8 run i saw was 14.4!

So how did you do topfuel? I ran 12.9s with pretty poor traction - 2.0x 60 foots at best. Temps were around 80 and the DA was 2000 to 2500. I did the same prep I always do to the car.

I'm so disappointed with my times. I ran a 13.8 with a 2.54 60', a 13.6 with a 2.25 60' and a 13.7 with a 2.25 60' (last run I turned the esp back on with the predator and didn't bother pushing the button). There was no traction and it was in the high 80s first run to 90s after that. There were 400+ cars so they just kept running them through. No track prep.

Some guys at the track were commenting that Fontana is a slow track and even uphill. Another supercharged SRT8 Charger ran a 13.17 the second race against me. He had a bad reaction time and I jumped -.069, by half way I thought I might beat him and then he passed...

This is the first time I've raced at this track, but I went with my friend to this track in July of 2006 before I bought my car. He ran a 14.1 with magnaflow cat back, a cai and a jet chip (06 300c SRT8). It was 100+ that day so I blamed it on the heat. He ran a 13.1 at Bakersfield May 2007 with the same exact mods (I ran a 13.3 with the stupid suitcase delete exhaust -20hp).

So basically now I have about 60-70 more rwhp than I did at a Famoso in Bakersfield and ran slower than I did then (plus I now have the 275s--had the RSAs in Bakersfield).
