Went to Byron Dragway again...

...but not with my CSRT8

I had bought a new '07 CSRT8 and had taken it to Byron Dragway last year and best run was 13.2. (thread somewhere). But then I sold it this May and bought a '09 CTS-V. Thought I would just post the numbers up for anyone who may or may not care. Good to know what you might be up against

I don't have a scanner so forgive me.
2009 CTS-V

Track elevation 730ft.
Air temp 78.1
Barometric pressure 30.06
Relative humidity 48%
D/A 2171 ft
tire pressure 32 all around
1/8 tank of gas

2nd run was the best.

R/T .194
60' 1.945
330 5.285
1/8 8.011
MPH 91.27
1000 10.338
1/4 12.292
MPH 114.55

When I was running the SRT8 (stock no mods) my best 60ft were around 2.2 with a top speed of 104-105. Best 1/4 time was 13.2.

The problem with this car seems that hp and tq will get some better times than an SRT8 but it is very difficult to launch. Just too much of both. The back tires are 285's and with traction on, traction off, sport stabilitrack mode on, or totally off this car can not hook up. If I played nice with the gas my 60' were worse (2.2, 2.3). Granted I'm no pro, but when I ran I had maybe an 1/8 of a tank of gas. Maybe the back end was too light. Will try again later this year with maybe 3/4 or 1/2 tank to see if I can't get more traction. Wonder if the independent rear suspension plays any role in it?

Cheers to all you SRT8 guys. I was one and I still miss it but I know it is in great hands with the new owner.

Very impressive run. The CTS-V is the car I would most likely replace my SRT8 with right now, if I were getting a new car My best run in my SRT8 so far is a 13.2 also and that was with 85 degree temperature and humidity. My best 60 ft. in my SRT8 was a 2.006, but that 2.006 run wasn't with my best ET, probably because of all the heat and humidity. No matter how well we do, there is always some room for improvement. I'm going back to the track this fall when the temperature and humidity are lower.

I'd say your 1.94 60 foot is pretty good there. What were your e.t.s on the runs where your 60 was 2.2? Nice upgrade by the way!!! I like the looks of the new CTS-V.

Thanks. It is fast but a bit small for me. Wish it was a bit more spacious. Kinda hard to get out of. On to the numbers.

60'= 2.225= 12.791 @ 113.97
60'= 2.307= 13.544 @ 113.86 (srt8man and you would have beat me there )

Interesting thing when I ran the 13.2 in my SRT8 my top speed was 105.67.

Still waiting on the pics.

nice times

amazing quickness!

That drivetrain is awesome in every way. And they can even do pretty good on gas.

I'd love to know how that time corrects for atmospheric conditions.

I looked hard at these when they became available, I was astonished at how small they look and 'feel'.

Corrected ET and MPH is 11.982 @ 117.585. Guess maybe I coulda put that in the original.

And the gas, I averaged 12.9-13mpg in the srt and right now I'm at 15mpg so I was pleasantly surprised.

The SRT8 seems to put the power down pretty well when launched properly without wheelspin. A tiny screech from the tires at the bottom of first doesn't hurt much, but spinning at the top of first gear will result in poor times across the board.

My 13.2 was paired with a 106.2 trap speed (best ET and best trap speed so far). My best 60 ft of 2.006 was with a 13.3 ET. I'm wondering now if the tire pressure may have been too low (27.5) on this day. I have run my SRT8 nine times, and all of my 60 ft. times have been under 2.2 seconds. My worst run so far is a heat soaked 13.6. All of this with nasty summer heat and humidity. My SRT8 is very consistent.

They key to good ETs is the 60 ft. time. I bet that if the track is prepped well, sub 2.0 second 60 ft. times are easily possible. Knock 2 tenths off the 60 ft. and this should lower the ET by 3-4 tenths and result in an even faster trap speed. I came close several times, but still have been unable to break the 2.0 second barrier on my RSAs. I'm betting that I will do better this fall.

Good luck on breaking the 2.0 60ft. Might have to wait until the first frost. My lowest 60ft's were 2.05 and 2.06. Eric had that awesome run of 12.54. That is just amazing!

Man launching the SRT8 was so nice. Just take the traction control off put it in auto stick and let her fly. I would get very consistent numbers if the car was cooled down long enough. There was a orange challenger SRT8 and grey one that were doing 13.2's. Seems to be the theme around these parts.

Then one thing I don't miss is the 40mph stomp on the gas and blah. The supercharger takes care of that quite nicely.

Wish I had those pics. Blew the doors off a sweet blue 350Z with rims. Looking in my rearview I saw him beating on the steering wheel. Made me laugh.

No corvettes that day. Was looking to run with a C5Z or C6. Not a C6V but would be fun to see those times. Maybe vvv90 or whatever will bring his down one of these weekends. Not sure what mods if any he has on that vette. Might give me a reason to get that $500 dollar tune to put it at around 600hp at the crank lol.

I really like this site. No offense to the cadillac forums but for the most part it is guys with more money to flush than Fat Bastard uses toilet paper. There are very, very knowledgeable guys (cough, Mr. I, cough) that love their cars. Don't feel that on the other forum. Maybe cuz I don't peruse it as much but I love reading the "what have you blown away..." threads everyday. Don't have one of those. Anyways, off topic.
