170 mph cruise control

RS,

Any info on this TSB?

There is a one paragraph article on page 31 of Dec. 2005, Hot Rod magazine. It says that DiamlerChrysler's CEO's chauffeur was out for a drive on the autobahn in a 300C SRT-8. He got up to 171 and tried to set the cruise and it wouldn't engage. So, a TSB was issued under "transmission recalibration" that would allow the cruise control to engage at that speed!

Enquiring Euro Owners want to know!

TIA

Cruise at 170 is insane, at these speeds lifting the throttle with instant feathering for "situations" such as traffic or unusual noises such as a wheel bearing letting go could be life saving.

The cruise will maintain that speed regardless of "situations" until you stomp the brake or turn it off, you may have travelled an extra 500+ feet during this time whilst the person who has lifted off the throttle is already slowing down the instant they lift versus lifting your foot off the carpet while the cruise is blasting along at 170. Not a good idea, similarly using the CC in the rain is a very poor idea.

The TSB on this states that 100MPH is the MAX that will be set on the 6.1. So no go on above that.

I tried several times last week while on the Autobahn.

This is correct. The bulletin is being misread. The Flash corrected an issue that would prevent the cruise control from working in the normal 100mph and under range throughout the existing existing cycle, if the vehicle speed exceeded 140mph during said ignition cycle. The 100mph limit was always there, and the Flash does nothing to change the limit. The limit is definitely a safety issue, and a good one at that. And I don't buy the chauffeur story. He probably would have been fired for reporting back to headquarters that he was not able to set the cruise while driving at 170mph!

Well I was cruising along at 170/171 and tried to engage it.

I did notice that when you engage the CC at 100MPH and you exceed 140 the cruise control shuts off.

I had a good 20 miles of open Autobahn that I covered in all of about 8 minutes. Man this thing moves.

Is this MPH or KPH

Just curious--- Since we're talking about Germany here, was that 171 MPH or KPH.

I'm not confessing, but while on vacation in west TX between Carlsbad, NM and El Paso, I know that the H.E. can "cruise" at 102 mph (per the GPS indicator), and that against a pretty stiff head wind... at least the way the tumble weeds were rollin', rollin', rollin'... while the H.E. was rock solid. Er... that is the one that passed us...
