Engine Connecting Rod Bearing Debris - 2006 LX 3.5L engines

Customer Satisfaction Notice: # RC-F35-06

Models: 2006 LX Chrysler 300, Dodge Magnum and Charger

Subject: The engines in about 14,000 of the above vehicles may have been assembled with sand-like debris on the number two connecting rod bearing journal of the crankshaft. This can cause excessive rod bearing wear and result in engine failure.

Repair: The number two connecting rod bearing and crankshaft journal must be inspected. If either the connecting rod bearing or crankshaft journal is damaged, a long block engine must be installed.

Alternate Transportation: Dealers should attempt to minimize customer inconvenience by placing the owner in a loaner vehicle if inspection determines that engine replacement is required and the vehicle must be held overnight.

Wow, that is a pretty big bill if they have to swap out 14,000 engines and give the owners loaners! Thanks as always for the update ResumeSpeed.

You will receive a letter in the mail if your vehicle is affected. Or you may also call the dealer you bought your vehicle from and have them run a VIN check. On the consumer online Recall check your vehicle does not come up as needing the repair but they may have not yet entered in all of the affected models yet. I think you are going to be ok.

I recieved this recall notification two weeks ago. When I contacted my dealer regarding a loaner/rental, I was told that unless I had ourchased an extended warranty and the alternate tranportation was included, I was not getting either. So, I contacted Chrysler directly and was told that they do not provide loaners. This is what they had to say: "Unfortunately, your warranty does not provided the use of a rental vehicle when your own vehicle requires service." To what I responded: "The fact of the matter is this has nothing to do with MY warranty as you alluded to in your response, this is a MAJOR mistake on the part of Chrysler and not a SERVICE my vehicle requires." They ended the exchange like this: "Our sincerest apologies for the problems you have had. I hope we will have another chance to restore your faith in us."
Unfortunately, Chrysler is not in the league of other auto makers as far as customer service goes, and I assured them this will be my last Chrysler automobile. This is one obvious reason American car companies are loosing there market niche.
Sorry for the long post.

I purchased my car from a dealer who gives loaners for any/all service, I think it could be the only one in this area. There are also Ford dealsers and GM dealers around that do this. It's a good incentive to stay with them for service.
