FIXED my version of sunroof rattle

So, I finally found out what the problem was (for my sunroof anyways)..... I had the first sunroof rattle TSB done - to no avail. Also, took it in once before, but the dealer couldn't hear it - go figure.

How to fix (total time about 5-8 mins):

Tools required: small flashlight, small wooden shim

Step 1: open sunroof

Step 2: open up space between sunroof visor and headliner - using flashlight to keep open, and provide light

Step 3: trim off tip of shim, and drive trimmed peice between 2 metal plates - using the thick butt end of the shim works good to push trimmed piece into place

Step 4: repeat for other side

Voila - the 2 metal plates can no longer chatter! Hopefully this will work for you - I can drive over the roughest roads around and nothing but sweet silence

Considering how many have had problems with the SR and how many of us most likely will, perhaps Island SRT8's fix should be made into a "sticky."

I had this problem with mine. On the first dealer visit they did the TSB. The fix did not last 2 days. On the second visit they replaced the whole assembly. No problems now.

My sunroof squeaks when in the up position also. I assumed it was from pounding the subwoofers while it was open, because you can see the sunroof flex with the low bass notes. Regardless what caused it, i personally wont bother fixing it because far from being a brand new vehicle. 05 300c, 90,000k (55923 miles) This kinda sh*t happens with good old domestic vehicles.

I have smacked that dern sunroof a couple of times. It is so annoying, but I took it to the dealer and it was fixed... for a whopping 2 days! I am going to do the quick fix myself!

For me the squeak was for two different reasons at different times.

On my first visit the TSB called for replacement of the assembly. It went away for sometime. Months later it came back. They re-torqued everything a couple of different times - no improvement.

Ultimately the Service Manager gave me the silicon lube I applied it to the rubber seal and it went away for good.

i just noticed that mine only squeaks when it hot. On a cool day it doesn't squeak. Once the sun heats it up....squeak.....squeak.....squeak....

Off to the dealer.
