My regret is that I only discovered it 5 or 6 weeks ago. Would love to have had the additional months of near flawless tranny performance that the first flash brings with it.
You know that's a different flash, right? That TSB wasn't for the 2AK version.

Sure. It was the original "fix" for the SRT8's 1-2 shift problem, TSB 18-031-05. But for everyone but the 6.1's it was effectively every bit the flash that TSB 21-020-06 is.

There were no perceptible changes, good, bad, or neutral, with the second flash in terms of transmission performance or function (for everyone but the 6.1's).

Cool, that's good to know... I find it interesting that some of the modules in the car look for the VIN information over the CAN bus to configure themselves. So it's likely a flash contains unique code and/or parameters for models that are called specifically. Which means the possibility exists that the AK and the previous flash are exactly the same for the 5.7. Now an interesting hack would be to fool the flash in to thinking a 5.7 is a 6.1, looking for it to shift at 6200. I suppose the PCM would also have to let it go to 6200...

Ah, to spend an afternoon with one of the programming people at DC... I'd pay for that information and ability to tweak. Thousands.

bear with me im for the most part a 'lurker' in here. i noticed on this thread mostly everone involved is a srt owner, but i have heard this flash has aided to 5.7 performance. so here goes my 'experience', im sure i went about it wrong but im not too savy. i called my local dealership a couple of days ago and told them my car's shifting was ruff. described some of the issues that have been described on here. he said fine bring it in anytime and they'd look at it. so today i brought it in. when i did so the service manager introduced himself to me. (small dealership) and asked me how it was going with the car. i told him and he seemed very concerned and told me they would do all they would get to it as soon as they could but kinda busy and wanted to give me a rental.. soo, i didn't like the sound of that so ,heres my mistake i think, i offered that i had done some research on my own and had found that this was not an uncommon thing etc etc and some owners had had a 'flash' done and were happy about the repair. so he started to explore that. he found ,as we know, that it was a 6.1 flash and not a 5.7, which i answered 'so what'. so he called starscan ,on hold a long time, service manager seems kewl , i like having my car run top notch also, do anything you can to get it there ,blah, blah. gets the starscan guy on speaker phone . describes what im dealing with he seems un interested S.M. offers the info about the 6.1 flash and the starscan guy says theres no way to do it, its illegal, and there will be no christmas for anyone involved.. S.M. says do you wanna leave the car with me. i say let me think about it maybe set something up , i need it right now etc. S.M. did say if he knew the way to do it. asked for a dealer who he could talk to etc. anybody help here? thanks felix

As you stated, you didn't keep quiet when you should have.

It's your call as to whether you drop you car off with a service manager who is obviously working hard to earn your business, but has now has his mind polluted to some degree by the starscan "expert".

I would only do it on condition that once he felt he his ducks in a row and knew what he planned to do he call and reveal his gameplan before you make the final go - no go decision. And that, if you decide against it - can't really think of a good reason you should (decide against it) - for any reason that the rental car is still covered by the dealer.

Also, if you have a superchips tuner make it absolutely clear that the tech is not to flash your PCM under any circumstances, only the TCM.

Here's my advice for how to proceed with the next dealership, if you end up going that route: Getting the flash done: Review this thread starting with post #115 or so. Pay close attention to what Nightshade says, and the approach he used with his dealer to great effect (post #123). Do something similar and it should work for you: Just Got Tcm Flashed - Page 3 - LX Forums

As a backup, have the TSB numbers for both SRT8 TSB flashes (which are legitimate 3.5 and 5.7 flashes as well). Those are TSB 18-031-05 and TSB 21-020-06.

You don't *have* to do anything, felix.

It's your call totally. I'm just passing on the approach that the majority have taken who didn't already have sufficient rapport with their service department to simply walk in and ask for it.

Here's wishing you success in getting your car successfully flashed via whatever approach you choose to use.

as always thanks meister your very considerate. 'have' to was not the word i should have used. i wish i had that kind of relationship with a service department. i thought he, the service manager, was pretty kind, he spent quite sometime with me on this.leaving the car just seemed like a fruitless path becaue the s.m. said that even if he could echo all the transmission issue to chrysler he couldn't see how that would equal me getting the tsb flash.hopefully in the near future my opportunity will become more evident. felix
