Rough Idle on V6 300 Limited

had a issue with rough idle after engine warmed up

Went to local Dealer

Here what the dealer has told me !

found TSR 09-010-06 :
***************
requires the rotation of the valves and cleaning of carbon deposits in valves train
***************

It seems that I have to step on Gas to clear the carbon every now and then (before this issue appears)
but now it will require they pull the valve covers and do a rotation of valves and clean the carbon
(they are saying it whole day job to clean and rotate the valves)

it does not pay to do the speed limit !

I had this TSB 09-010-06 done yesterday. It took more than a couple of hours I think. Unfortunately going to 5000 RPM means extended acceleration time and more than 90 mph at least, which I can't do for fear of the State Police. I will also be very noticeable among all the other cars. Another suggestion in the TSB is to look into another brand of fuel for detergent quality... which I will do.

I too notice a similiar issue with my car. It tends to "bounce" when sitting idle. Has anyone considered fuel/oil additives to try and clean/lubricate the valves? If so any success?

The other thing too, most cars usually have an EGR valve that can often be cleaned to help reduce rough idling. Anyone know if this applies to V6 300's?

I had the same problem, did the same software update. Still idles rough but significantly reduced. So am I reading correctly? I'm supposed to gun it every now and then to clear the carbon buildup?

this tsb isnt for a software flash but actually disasembling the engine and doing a cleaning of the parts.

Too funny! I agree we should print the TSB and hand it to the cops.

Have some good news to report. Since my first post to this thread, I've changed the air filter and have used premium fuel system cleaners(twice now) and there has been a marked improvement in this behavoir. Just sucks that it does require "gunning the car" above 2500rpm regularly to keep carbon deposits off the valves.

I'll keep everyone updated as to whether regular use of fuel system cleaners improves this any further

I'm so glad I found this thread on Google. We had massive rains in Dallas today and I had to make my way through a few small lakes to get to work. I left the office early to avoid traffic, but the check engine light turned on and my car started to shake a little, then a lot. It felt as if it wasn't going to make it to the end of the street.

I stopped on the service road, turned it off and on again and it did the same thing. I gave it a couple of minutes, then got on the road again. it didn't shake anymore, but the light stayed on. Thankfully a dealership was only a few minutes away.

I was told the same thing about carbon build up, but they didn't tell me anything about how to avoid it other than using decent gas. I bought the car used last September. It had one previous owner and around 34k miles. It's at 42k now and I've made every oil change on time and I only use Chevron gas. I guess I have the previous owner to thank for almost not making it home tonight.

They're going to clear the build-up and update the computer, but the guy also wanted to go ahead and replace the spark plugs. He said they didn't really need to be changed until 60k miles, but it wouldn't hurt to do it now. If the spark plugs aren't at fault here, is there any reason to change them now? I'd rather not spend the extra cash if it's not necessary.

Thanks for the info.

Anyone recommend a preferred brand of gasoline? BP, Shell, Getty, etc.
