Flashpac programming does not work with Canadian 91 octane. I recently purchased the Superchips Flashpaq and had been running Shell 91 octane for about a week before receiving the unit. I installed the programming and was delighted with the performance and shifts. I took my car to a local Dyno for testing and the mechanics freaked when they heard my motor pinging (detonation) through a closed hood, and stopped the run, with the tailpipes smoking. It is very difficult to hear pinging since the motor has to be under load and with my exhaust system, I never would have known if I had not gone for the dyno. I contacted Superchips Tech support and dealt with Chris Wade the email response was Quote "I was told by my engineers and calibrators that Canadian 91 octane fuel is lower rated than the US 91 please try a higher octane fuel." This is hard to do with a daily driver in Ontario with very few stations offering higher grades. There is Sunoco 94 if you can find a station, and then have to worry about where you are going to be the next time the 300's thirsty. I asked if there would be a fix or that I would like to return the unit. The response was "Unfortunatley we do not make files for Canadian octane. If you would like to return to the place of purchase within 30 days that will be fine." I hate to do it, the product is great and the their customer service is excellent, but pinging will destroy your motor. Anyway fellow Canucks be warned, and American travelers be aware that the gas sucks, but the beer is great!

Definitely try the 87 tune. I've run one tank with the 91 tune and just switched to the 87 at fillup. There is not a world of difference between the two. I think I'll be running the 87 until it's time to go to the races. Then I'll switch to the 91. I also plan to try both settings at the races to see just how much difference there really is between the two.
Thanks "C"for me, and Magnuman. I just tried the 87 setting and you are right not a huge world of difference and I still get the crisp high shifts!!! I will keep the programmer!!! But as I said, without the dyno run, I would have contiued to use Canadian 91 octane and not have known about the pinging until it was too late for my engine! So Canadian users should be aware of the gas differences.
I run the Sunoco 94 octane and use the 91 setting. The Hemi is very happy with this combo.
I'm with NR, I normally only ever run 94 in my car, and I haven't even programmed it yet. If I can't get 94 then there is 93 at Pioneer. If I am in a jam, then 91, but that's rarely. I am in Toronto Ontario, dunno if you guys have Pioneer or not.

Hmmm that seems backwards to me. It's fairly well known that our 91 octane up here is equally as good as the American 91 octanes.
I use Sunoco 91 octane and use the 91 octane tune and no pinging at all.
You must of got some bad gas... but then again, it's from Shell!
I only trust Sunoco.

I thought mine was running great on 91 as well. The mechanics on the dyno heard the pinging right away. Superchips is well aware of this and blames it on our octane ratings. I sure wish there were more Sunocos around, but would never go near a Pioneer station.
Having read this thread the other day, I paid particular attention to any noises coming from the big Hemi this morning on the short drive to work. At about 50% - 75% throttle, under load, in 2nd/3rd gear, I'm sure I heard engine "pinging".
I've since changed to the 87 Octane setting (yet untried) but was running the 91 Performance tune, reduced torque mgmt, paddle auto kick and standard shift points.
There has been a lot said previously in numerous threads about octane ratings and differences between ratings using in different countries, however the general assumption was that Australian 95 would be equivalent to US 91. The next option is to go for 98 Octane but it's a very expensive option.
I wonder if Superchips would do a slightly less advanced timing profile if there were enough people in need??
