Not sure if anyone has noticed but some newer cars like both the 2011/12 BMW X5 and Rover Rover have a spontaneous high beam. When I was flashed I noticed they had some sort of a high beam output that resembled like HID colour output?? The colour was razor sharp like it had zero warm up and fully charged. I wondered what type of technology it carried, maybe some form of HID's or cree type LED's??

I found this demo, the high beam settings bit comes in at around 1:15, notice the colour output

One step for man, one giant leap for mankind

Don't some work by having a tilting reflector that just redirects the light from an already lit bulb?

I have seen this on a lot of new cars, the fog light comes on with the direction they are turning, I thought this might be a new thing that new cars had to have I have seen that many.

My wife's Sportage has those. Cornering lamps. They are actually very useful if you live in a village with virtually no streetlamps.

Don't bother with the CREE LED's, they don't work! As Ray correctly said its not enough and also colour was more like 6K compared to the low beam. Looks nice but not for me

I've added an interesting link here, the thread suggesting the use of OEM ballasts & mercury free HID bulbs for a faster start up for the high beams.
