Headlamp module?

So my car has been to a local Pendragon group dealership to investigate why my offside headlamp is not working. I know it is not the bulbs as I switched them and they have found a fault code B167B.
They say it is not the ballasts and that it is a module which is part of the headlamp assembly.

I have checked my warranty and lamp units are not covered, can the module be obtained separately, are they talking sh*te?

A new headlamp assembly (complete with "module") is 600.00 probably plus vat and fitting, if I can get the "module" separate then that is covered

Mods so far:Genuine Chrysler floor mats, alternator shield, 20% front 75% rear Llumar window tints, Brink detachable tow bar, internal boot release handle, chrome powder coated effect alloy wheels.......
must spend more money, must spend more money, must spend more money.............
(repeat until broke)

I have an old offside headlight in pieces and the only thing I can see inside it is a ballast and leveller motor. The only headlight module I know of is located behind the offside headlight near the windscreen washer filler neck but the headlights still work when that is disconnected.

That code means B167B=RIGHT FRONT HEADLAMP LIGHT SOURCE CIRCUIT.

Regards

Simon

Charltons Auto Recycling Centre in Cambridge may have it in stock, although I think it will cost a tonne. They should be able to deliver parts by post and most items come with 99 day warranty.

These pictures are of the inside of an offside headlight from a 2008 Facelift car. Just followed the wiring inside it and theirs only a ballast and level motor.

In a nutshell, if the headlight dance work then the motor is fine and if the hids work, then the ballast is fine.

The motor is the thing that make the beam move up and down and makes the lights dance, which is not accessible! You cannot take the headlight apart unless you baked it in the oven to soften the glue that seals it all together, these are not serviceable parts.

As long as beam setting is aligned at MOT and the lights are working then all is well. With regards to the code, ask them to clear it. Ignore it if it crops back unless you encounter a visible failure at the MOT

Good luck

I think GT's problem is the offside light doesn't light and its not the bulb. I'm thinking either the ballast is not getting any power or the ballast is screwed.

If there is NO light after bulb swap test, best if GT could check the fuse. Its an 08' model, what's the fuse number location for off side circuit? It should be to the front fuse distribution block, unfortunately my handbook has gone walkie's. There is also an igniter but one side is working well, so then it may point towards a fault with the ballast itself assuming all connections are good

As Simon photo demonstrates the ballast is mounted to the under of the headlight. To gain access to this the front bumper will need to be removed and then the headlight dismounted. Its an easy job, whole lot with some basic tools should take no more than an hour. Just need a bit of confidence and 3CF!

Regrettably if the fault is with the ballast, you are looking at for the OEM ones.
