Thumbs down dead battery :(

I just back from my long holiday.
Went outside, jumped in my wife's car (vectra 56 plate), started first time, move car.
Wanted to jump in my car (300c 07 plate with ONLY 9500 miles done), try to open car...BUM dead. I said ok, battery in keys maybe dead. Go in house, get the spare key, same, dead.
Opened the car using the key (on passenger side as drive side doesn't have a key lock :P) . Car dead.
Called Chrysler.
After 40 min a car came and tried to jumpstart my car. Nothing. Connected directly to his battery with engine running. Nothing. Left cars connected for 10 min. Tries again... NOTHING. Then he removed the battery, and did a check! BATTERY totally dead! From 800 Amps my battery was showing a 4 amp!!!
Replaced battery, car started no problem.

So both cars stayed in drive way same length of time (2 month). Vectra NO problem.
300c DEAD!
U think is normal this ?
Both cars have sat nav's, bluetooth, and 300c has dvd player too. On the both cars this extras are original (on vectra all vauxhaull original parts , on chrysler all chrysler original parts)

Something stupid in 300c:
Battery is in the boot. To open the boot u need to have current. Since battery is deal, no way to open it without connecting the car to external power source (open the engine bay and u'll see a red cable, put the the external 12v source). Smart design!!!NOT!

Hi Florin

Sorry to hear about your problem - I know how frustrating it is when you expect your car to 'just work' and it doesn't. I can't help with a suggestion for the cause, but I have been told that there are some 'ignition off current draw' fuses that you can remove if you know your car is going to stand for a long time.

The reason I wanted to post was just to point out that the battery location *IS* a smart design. Putting the battery in the boot keeps it clean and dry, and helps with the weight distribution. The remote charging/starting terminals in the engine bay are usually all you need when the battery dies - you can normally get enough juice into the car through these terminals to open the boot if you need to replace a totally dead battery. I had a dead battery a few weeks back, and after struggling to get a jump start from another car I bought a rechargeable 12v power supply/starter/compressor/light/teasmade (OK - I made up the teasmade) from Costco ~45 I think - and it started the car with no problem.

I've had problems too, so I use one of these occasionally.

Solar-Powered 12V 1.5W Battery Trickle Charger : Solar Battery Chargers : Maplin

Especially if the car's standing for a while.

Did your neighbours get the same awakening that mine did when my battery died at 1.30am in the morning? The alarm has its own backup power and so warbles quite merriliy for some time as the battery goes dead. Mine's a 57 plate and the battery went flat between 6pm and 1.30am the following morning. In my case a jump got it started and it's been OK since - but something flattened it and I'd love to know what!

Like Chill, I don't have any issues with the battery in the boot, it's a simple operation to gain access - although it's shame they didn't move the door lock for RHD - I have to clamber through a flower bed to get into the passenger door!!

Hmmmm, having just read through the TSBs on this site, I see there's one relating to the MyGIG audio system flattening the battery!!! Must ask the dealer about that when it's in for its service!
