Sorry Al but that reader ain't vehicle specific,for example VAG specific codes don't begin with "P" or "C" or "U" like EOBD codes do ( they do with EOBD readers but VS readers read the manufacturers code) EOBD readers are simple, VS readers are way more complicated,like I mentioned before,imagine a big box and in one small corner is EOBD,the other 95% is VS ( vehicle specific) and its the VS that the manufacturers don't want you to read so you have to take it to a dealer,unless you know someone with a VS reader and all you can read with a cheap EOBD reader is that small section in the corner of the big box....it gets more complicated..mines VS but cos I don't pay to join certain manufacturers VS " club" through certain VS readers you can actually upgrade software on the vehicles but I got mates that can do that for me,basically EOBD readers are just scratching the surface cos manufactures are changing their systems every few years....it really is a nightmare to keep with them
Yes but even the basic scanners communicate using many of the common protocols CAN, VPW, PMW, ISO & KWP2000. A basic scanner should at least "talk to" the EOBD equipment and read the generic codes as long as it meets the standards. We are talking about total failure to communicate here, not failure to communicate with some of the modules.
I think Chrysler use the ISO 9141 Standard which is the same as most European manufacturers but not sure about this.

It is odd as I used my U480 to get my 02 sensor fault codes and clear them on my 300 and others have used them too. What I have noticed is both of the cars on here that it hasn't worked on are 2007's. Others have used them on 2006 and 2008's with no problems.

I don't think it's a "iffy" one because it's worked fine on 3 other cars but the seller on eBay has emailed me saying that it's not the correct protocol for Chrysler 300C's and has offered a refund so it's gone back in the post now.
I will now look for an alternative scanner/code reader.
If gadget man finds a reader that works on his 2007 300c can he post the model on here so i can buy one,or if anyone in the north east area around stockton/middlesbrough/darlington who would kindly try theirs on my car to see if theirs work,so i dont waste my money on another reader.Crate of beer in it!
Mine still wont work.Can anyone in cleveland area help me out with their reader to see what codes come up and switch off the mil light.Dont want to buy another reader which might not work aswell,that will be a right pi$$ take.Thanks,ANDY.
