20 for a seal?? dunno if they're nationwide but we have a company called GPT seals round the corner from us,we take seals, bearings etc., to them, they look at it and say what it is and replace it,never been wrong yet, costs pennies, anyway going back to the leak,if you pour back in what came out how do you know how much oil you've leaked before you spotted it,it could have been leaking for weeks, when mine leaked my underneath was splattered with tranny fluid right up to the suitcase silencer

Its not just a seal its the actual updated plug complete with seals. Its not actually dropped any oil yet its just damp round the plug so i wouldnt think its lost anything as yet. Im going to do it before it does actually leak fullblownl

Hi All, been reading the posts re gearbox leak after having the gearbox serviced at an independant gearbox specialist, the guy told me about the updated plug and said that he was going to replace the old one as a matter of course but did not have one in stock. I wouldn't have minded this at around 20 for a part that could potentially save my gearbox. What I took exception to was that he was also going to replace the electrics pack on the gearbox, cost = 300!!!!! without telling me!!!!!! According to this very honest gent, this has to be done when updating the plug, however I haven't read of anyone having to replace the electrics pack when doing this fairly simple job. I am looking for some advice on this one before I go back to see him on Monday about the tranny fluid he spilled all over the top of my engine and wiring, the new replacement filler cap which was not replaced with new(old one popped back on) and the tears on the plastic guards underneath which according to him were plastic welded which should last a lifetime haha. The tears have come apaprt already!!!!!
I know this is a bit of a rant but i'm sick of stealers and independants who just see sales whenever I draw up in my 300.
Help please.
Thanks

no,the wiring etc does NOT need replacing just the plug housing with the seal,if it ain't leaking leave it,you could possibly have the updated seal already in,sounds like this indy is a bit of a stealer too.............you need someone like me........lol
