it's a piece of p1ss to change,it's like an adaptor/extension plug with the seal, you lose a bit of oil but as Chrisp says you could put back in what came out,the dipsticks the only way really as if it was leaking you don't know how long it's been leaking and how much

Heres the updated "Pilot Bushing" as MB call it. As UK says easy to fit. Just turn the locking collar to 7 o clock position and remove the wiring plug. Next undo the 7mm bolt in the centre of plug pull the old bushing out off the box carefully catching the oil you've lost. Next lube the o rings on the new plug with a smear of ATF line up the new plug( it will only go one way) push the plug into the box and nip up the 7mm bolt (not to tight its only plastic) Reinsert the wiring harness plug pushing the locking collar back to 11 o clock to lock it in. Youre now done underneath. If you havent had a major leak ie nothing dropping on the floor top back up with what you caught when removing plug (make sure you keep it clean). If you have had a dramatic loss of fluid you will need to check the level with a dipstick as UK recommends. Or failing that get a stealer to check the level.

Bit of an update about this job being easy lol. Did my second one of these in as many weeks on a 2007 CRD today. Over the pit we go. What they like to do he says piece of p##s says me. I'll be done in ten minutes go and make a brew. So out comes the wiring plug undo 7mm bolt pull out the old bushing catch fluid bit of a clean up lubed up new plug seals with a smear of ATF and in we go with the new bush. Or rather not, no matter how much i tried the b##stard would not go in far enough to let the 7mm bolt start. You know the scenario take it back out clean up lube O rings put back in after about 10 attempts im thinking f##king things never going to go in. Voice from above says your teas up here hows it going It f##cking aint says i. Finally i take the O rings off roll them over on themselves put them back on and this time lubed them with a smear of silicone grease result ?? b##stard went straight in. Just an afterthought bit of advice if have a problem getting these updated bushings in.

This car belongs to a friend of a friend he's owned it for 2 years and has never looked after his cars. It had 32,000 miles on it when he bought it now on 108,000. He never washes it drives it in all wind and weathers the wheels are filthy but perfect no corosion whatsoever (bl##dy marvellous). It has no service history and has only had 2 oil changes since he's owned it both done by me. When i changed the oil & filter for him the first time at 75000 i pulled the cover and checked the turbo inlet pipe there was more oil round it and down round the swirl than the Torre Canyon deposited on the Cornwall coast. I told him this would need sorting oh it will be alright he said. Just done the oil & filter again along with the gearbox leak checked round the swirl again and still has bad as ever!! "Swirl port failure and oil contamination dont believe it LOL

I did an oil change on mine at the weekend & noticed mine was starting to leak at just 11400 miles , I still had the spare so just swapped it out . When fitting the new plug if you do the 7mm bolt up even a fraction to tight it must distort the outer housing as the wiring plug will not go back in no matter what . Ive added a few pics , not that great but I did the swap on the floor . The plug housing in the picture is the old one & thats the amount of oil that came out while doing the swap .
