Red Battery Warning Light

Hi, Can anyone help me with this one.

I was driving home yesterday when the Red Battery Warning Light came on, I looked at the posts on this site regarding this and one mentioned leaking fuel or oil onto the alternator. I checked and there are no leaks, I also checked the battery with my multimeter and it is being charged when the engine is running.
Has anyone any ideas on this one, also in the post regarding the leaks onto the alternator it mentioned you can fit a SHIELD SPLASH where can I get one of theses from?

Thanks for your help.

My Red battery light came on last week just during start-up Then the next day it was on and off all the way to work.
I put it in the garage for a new alternator costing me £325 plus 5 hours labour total £700

I don't know why it failed because I always keep an eye on the engine bay for oil leaks and keep it clean.

Its been a very reliable car and its the first time its broke-down in the five years. If it happens again I'll get rid of it. I'm not wasting money on repairs when the money can go towards a new car.

Oil damage to the alternator doesn't occur because of a leak, it happens when oil is spilt during filling - since the alternator is directly below the oil filler cap. The £5 plastic cover from Chrysler is a good investment as it directs any spilt oil away from the alternator.

It cost me £800 in the end. They had to take the whole engine out.

I've noticed one difference since its been done the smell of warm diesel has disappear from
the drivers side wheel arch.

Red Battery Warning Light

The battery warning light has now gone, caused by a loose connector on the alternator.
I got an alternator shield from Kings Cheltenham cost £5.54 incl. postage.
It was extremely fiddly to fit, but I eventually managed with a nice click when the front end was pushed in place.
I thought that was it, but when I did a test drive there is an intermittent vibration caused by the pipe at the side of the alternator that has been pushed closer to the body by the sheild.
