Ever Seen This Before?

My Friend Sent these to me..

There was an odd noise in the front of the car when he drove close to a wall, He thought it was just a dustboot or a slightly warped brake..

As it turns out. THERE WAS A PIECE OF RUBBER MISSING THE SIZE OF A SAUSAGE... WTF...

New rubber on already so it's fixed but that could have been Very bad at 160...

Here are some shots..

That is pot hole damage for sure. If you dismount the rim you will see the damage from the inside. They also look a little dry rotted on that inside. Except for the pot hole damage you may have had a warranty issue if they were not to old.

That damage appears to be on the inside of the wheel so I guess it had nothing to do with any wall he drove by. I hope your friends teeth are alright if it was a pothole that did that. It might have been road debris but I like the more exotic possibility of cutting the corner to close and going over the median just like the other unfortunate souls before him that knocked down the sign and left the 3" square jagged metal post waiting for the inside of his tire. At any rate that is one wasted tire! Did Yokohama cover the damage?

So is your friend saying how he believes this damage occurred? Very nasty “chuck” out of the tire. Not good at any speed I should think.

Unhappy

Yeahh this has happend to me personally on my other car. I have 17'' with 215/40/17. POT HOLE...the side wall is so small that the rim/wheel hit it and it actually acts like a knife. It cuts the side wall, either on the inside or outside depending on the hole and how you hit it. I even this some damage to the wheel too...i had to hammered to get it sealed and pit some of that black glue.

It was not a Pothole that he remembers. He did buy them from a local person used as it was the end of the year and he wanted to extend the SOLO II Season a bit. He was planning to get 4 New tires in the spring so it's not a big deal. He has gotten his money back and all worked out.
