Not Exactly the Happiest Guy Ever....

Welp, my new MOZ wheels came in today, and guess what, the black powdercoat is already peeling......these things are definately going to have to go back to MOZ and get replaced. I just hope the new ones won't be like this. I've had them for about an hour. Sorry guys, just had to vent. Just sucks cause i've been almost 2 months without wheels just because of wait times. It sucks.

A buddy of mine had a GSR Integra that came with powder coated rims from the factory and they kept peeling. No matter how many times they fixed them they would peel.

Well I used to Have powder-coated torq thrust II's, had them for years and didn't have any peeling or chipping at all! And plus, all colored wheels are powdercoated, and they never chip. idk what the deal is with these, ESPECIALLY after spending almost $4,000 on them...

Adam (my memory serves me right?)-
That is a DRAG. I really liked your last wheels; I take it you have sold them by now.
By the time you finally get the replacements it will be snowing and you'll have to put on snow tires! (I bet you are NOT in the snow belt)
Post a link of the wheels- I want to see what you are putting on!

Concern: These wheels weren't powdercoated one at a time. It is likely the replacements may be from the same coater, and may be prone to chipping, just a bit later than at the moment you receive them. You may want to ask for a rebate and get them powder-coated locally. It'll cost a bit more, but you can get them done exactly like you want, and at top quality.
The powdercoating you will get from a professional vendor will be WAY better than the quality of mass-produced coatings. Indestructable.

I'm pretty sure they're powdercoated, and I know they're not supposed to peel, thats why it caught me completely off guard! I'm taking them back to my wheel guy today to see what we can do about it.

I agree with TM. Powdercoating, if done correctly should not peel, crack, etc. The bullet proofing of a wheel, for color if you will. The reason powdercoating is so popular with motorcycles (lasts longer than paint on the road). I would look into TM's suggestion of seeing if you can get a rebate/credit from Wheel co. and have the powdercoating done locally. Recently my own custom motorcycle painter tried to steer me towards powdercoating my USW wheel centers for Freebird. But since there is no correct match to Silver Steel metallic, in powdercoat world, and I have had my various wheels painted for more than a decade, He will paint mine.

But I am one of the old school guys stuck in the paint world and not powdercoating yet. But since you are trying to have your wheel finish in black. You should have an easier time getting that to match against your black.

I will say this. My USW wheel centers were painted in Brilliant Black,by USW and I did not have any problems with them, and you could see all the incredible colors you see in the Brilliant Black finish on the wheels as well.

Food for thought.
