The wheels are aluminum with a chromed plastic cover. The pitting is in several places on all 4 wheels.

Here is a close up photo of the pitting on my wheels.

I would appreciate feedback, as I am meeting with a DC Canada rep about this problem. My wheels are really getting bad. It looks like corrosion is leaking onto the lip from under the cladding.

Does anyone else have corroding wheels? I want mine replaced - no - correction - I want a credit towards a better quality wheel.

I have 14.5K on my "C" now and I live in Central Illinois with lots of road salt being used this time of year. My wheels look like the example and worse. It all appears to be located close to the outer rim and not at this time on the spokes. But who knows what it will be like by spring? I just discovered it today and have not been to my dealer yet. Has anyone been and what has been the final outcome? Have they replaced the wheels with updated OEM's or just what? I want some solid data when I go to my dealer so I don't have to listen to his BS answer to long.

Footnote: Took the car in last Friday 2/18/05 and Dealer ordered me a new set of 4 wheels with no problems at all .

Mine are getting quite bad. All on the exposed aluminium rim. spreading like an evil fungus.

Mine are pristine with all the salt, be glad you don't have that vexing vibration at 55-58 mph.

I'm having the same corrosion issues with mine (on the outer lip, mostly); I noticed them about a month ago. I'll take some pics and post them. I took delivery in September, for what it's worth.

I just took her in today and told the service rep about the wheel problem. He proceeds to give me some b.s. about there being some backorder on the wheels and I'd probably have to go the original dealership to have them swapped. Then he tells me he'll see what he can do and gives me the cool guy nod. You're probably thinking the same thing I was thinking, what's a backorder problem have to do with me going to the original dealership to get service (which is about 110 miles away while this one is 2 miles up the street). I thought we could have our vehicles serviced at any dealership in the U.S.. So getting back to the story, I'm going to see what they say when I go back to pick her up. If they have no problem with the replacement, I no problem. If they do have a problem replacing them, I'll have to show them my Detroit side.

Nothing negative is being implied about my hometown, we just handle things different.

I just received a call from my Dealer. He told me my replacement wheels were in (10 days, not bad) and to bring the car in tomorrow morning to have my old wheels replaced. No back order or nothing and most of all no BS. I really didn't want them this quick since its snowing outside as I write this. But, when you expect a load of $h%t and it doesn't happen, it catches a person off guard. Are Car Dealers changing their stripes?

Just called my service manager and left him a voice message. My wheels are really bad now.

Follow Up on the Pitted Wheels:

My service manager called me back. DCX seem to be aware of the problem. As suspected, the plastic chrome cladding is flexing and rubbing the clear coat off of the aluminum.

Exposed aluminum + salt = corrosion

He said they will replace. I said not with the C OEM's. Not acceptable, as I'll have the same problem all over again.

I suggested the Magnum R/T 18". He's going to see if that can be done.

(anyone see where I'm going with this, yet? Go on, take a guess

)

I was at my dealer to-day getting an estimate on my fender bender and asked him if he had heard of any problems with the wheels and he said that he had heard from DC that the car washes were the problem with the type of soap they use. I told him, no way as it only appears to be cars in the snow belts that are effected. I too do not want to put these wheels back on plus I would like to see these Contis go away as well.
