Is powder coating ok on OEM SRT wheels?
|
I am getting ready to take my wheels in to get powder coated but they made me sign something waiving any liability because the heating process may soften the wheels and cause them to bend or warp easier? Anyone have any knowledge about this??
EDIT:
I just called the place back and they said they cure them at 450 degrees so I decided to hold off for now. they were going to do them for $40 a piece instead of $65 too because I was just going to slip in with another job, ok well, better safe than sorry. I would still really like to get them done so if anyone has any info on what sort of powdercoating process is ok on aluminum wheels please let me know!
I based my decision on this info:
"Products like wheel billets, scuba tanks, etc. can be powder coated, but only with powders which cure below peak metal temperature of 300 degrees F. The crystalline realignment at 400 degrees F causes the previous ductile aluminum to become brittle."
