Vibration Problem

I wanted to ask if anyone would happen to know what my vibration problem is. Its kinda a long and confusing story so I will try my best to keep it simple.

About 3 weeks ago, me and the family traveled about 900 miles one way. At this time I had the stock wheels and tires. Which were the contis. I had a vibration which started at around 60mph and up. And it lasted the whole 900 miles to our destination. It was horrible. I was blaming the contis.

So at our destination, which was in Kentucky to see family and friends, I decided to do some mods. I got Hotchkis sway bars installed, Gibson Exhaust installed, custom pin striping, and 20" Martin Brothers Sharktooth wheels with Hankook Ventus tires 275-40-20. I got all of this done in about 2 days. I jumped onto the freeway and the vibration is still there. its not any worse or any better. So I called the guy that put on the wheels and tires and told him about it. I took it back in and he re-balanced them. Even road forced balanced. The wheels are 5x115 bolt pattern and he also put Hub Centric Rings on too. I then went and had an alignment done as well.

I still have the vibration about 60mph+ and I am also back at home. I dont have a clue as to what could be causing this problem. I have had the tires and wheels now balanced 3 times at 2 different places.

Anyone have any suggestions?

sorry this story was so long and thanks in advance for your help.

I would take the car to the dealer. It sounds like you might have a suspension problem. You could also try jacking up the front end and try wiggling the wheel to see if there is any play. If there is, I think you may have bad tie rods.

Here is some info from the service manual, under the Tires/Wheels section.

ROAD TEST
Road test vehicle on a smooth road for a least five miles to warm tires (remove any flat spots). Lightly place hands on steering wheel at the 10:00 and 2:00 positions while slowly sweeping up and down from 90 to 110 km/h (55 to 70 mph) where legal speed limits allow.
Observe the steering wheel for:
² Visual Nibble (oscillation: clockwise/counterclockwise, usually due to tire imbalance)
² Visual Buzziness (high frequency, rapid vibration up and down)
To rule out vibrations due to brakes or powertrain:
² Lightly apply brakes at speed; if vibration occurs or is enhanced, vibration is likely due to causes other than
tire and wheel assemblies.
² Shift transmission into neutral while vibration is occurring; if vibration is eliminated, vibration is likely due to
causes other than tire and wheel assemblies.
For brake vibrations, (Refer to 5 - BRAKES - BASE/HYDRAULIC/MECHANICAL/ROTOR - DIAGNOSIS AND TESTING).
For powertrain vibrations, (Refer to 3 - DIFFERENTIAL & DRIVELINE - DIAGNOSIS AND TESTING).
For tire and wheel assembly vibrations, continue with this diagnosis and testing procedure.

Are your lug bolt clips still on?? I believe they're called Tinnerman clips. There's two on each corner of the car. I just took mine off today and my vibrations at high speeds has been reduced, but I still have a little since I'm not running hub centric rings yet.

I knew I forgot to mention something. I did see the guy remove the passenger front clips, so I would say that they are all removed.

i seem to have a similar problem...
the problem didn't exist when i had on stock rims and tires, but i recently upgraded to 22's (9.5'' front, 10.5'' rear) and it feels like the car starts to "dance" around the road at speeds of 85mph+ it gets really annonying, like its bouncing on the front tires just a little to the left and the right.

anyone have a clue?
and i did watch the tires get put on and the guy did remove those little rings

You probably need hub centric rings like I do.

I Have 20s On My Car And Have The Same Problem When I Hit 65 Mph And Stops When I Go Faster.it Happend When I Rotated My Wheels.i Brought The Car Back To The Tire Shop And They Told Me One Of My Tires Have A Just A Little Hump In It. They Just Took Off Some Of The Weights They Put On To Balance The Tires.i Know You Just Bought New Tires So I Know You Wouldnt Have The Hump I Had But Maybe There Is A Problem With The Weights On One Of The Rims.because After They Removed Some Of The Weights The Car Rides So Much Better.good Luck
