Dealer Replacing Stockers!?!?!?!?

So, I stopped by the dealership yesterday at around 10:30 am to talk to the service rep about some TSBs. In conversation I brought up the pitting problem on the stcok chrome wheels again (for like the 5th time). I was dealing with a different service rep today and the first thing he said to me was "let me get the service manager". So I explained to the service manager how I had discussed it with other service reps in the past and nobody redirected me to him,(because according to them, he was in a meeting, not in that day, whatever else), he then grabbed his digital camera and we took a walk outside.

He started by inspecting my wheels commenting on how they "are not the worst he's seen but...". So on that I was worried and told him that I would come back if it would help if the wheels were cleaner (haven't been able to wash the car in over 2 weeks...either working overtime or raining), he said it wouldn't really matter since the problem was still visible. Then still pleading my case I leaned over and actually flaked off a few pieces of the plating. I told him that the car had 20k miles on it now and how it was out of basic warranty at this point (delivery 3/04). He said he'll see what he can do.

At this point he started snapping photos of each wheel and 1 more of the VIN (to be sure they have never been swapped before by Chrysler). I asked if the mileage and warranty would be an issue, his response "If I had the final say I would swpa them out right now if I had a set, but it's not up to me". Again, this made me worried, he didn't really make me feel like it was going to happen, so I asked what was next. He told me he was going to go in right now and email the photos over to a Chrysler Corp Service rep and wait on a reply. Now of course the first thing that came to mind was, yeah sure stop blowing smoke up my ass, then he continued saying that he assures me he is going to do it, hes not just trying to make me happy, after all....it doesn't cost the dealership anything, it is a warranited item since Chrysler knows they are a defect item.

So I head home with the same negative attitude I had had before when talking to rep about the issue that they were never going to replace them. About 1:15 pm, the phone rings and as I look at the caller ID I see that it is the dealership. Once again first thought is here we go, he's going to say they can't do anything. I answer the phone and the service manager is on the other side and knowing I have been having trouble with this and other issues with the front half of the stealership this is what I hear:
"Hi Will, its the good guy Al, the service manager. I have some good news, Chrysler accepted the claim for replacement of your wheels. I am going to order a set for you right now. I see you a service apointment for scheduled maintenance on July 9th, I should have the wheels in by then and if you want to leave the car with us for the day, we can put the new wheels on that day if they come in on time."
Of course I say absolutely, its great to hear good news for once from a car dealer. He told me it was his pleasure to make me happy.

Well...thats my story sorry if I was a little winded but this has been a back and forth with this dealership for a while now, just had to let it all out.

Score 1 for the good guys!!

And of course if you have the same issue with stock wheels, this goes to show you what the service dept is capable of doing...push them to do it.

Great news... you might want to post up the dealer info so other local members know where to go for good service.

So you mean to tell me the paint chipping off the rims are covered too. Thanks great to hear since I have had mine only for a little less than 4 months and have chipps and paint lost. I will try this once I get her back from all the other TSB's being taken care of.

cool...sounds like you struck pay dirt with the service manager..now you just have to wait a couple of weeks and it's smiling from that point on

This is really some great news!! We’ve not heard of anyone doing this repair of late as most of the replacements were done a while back. I’m very happy that your dealership stepped up for you like that. Congratulations!!

BTW….my dad’s 2005 Magnesium had all four of his wheels replaced at no charge. He had 14k and that was almost 2 years ago.

I had the same issues with my Jeep. I had some rock rails installed from factory and after 3 years and 1 week they have rusted out at the mount points. Took it to one dealership and they told me I was SOL because I was out of warranty. I said I couldnt believe they were going to argue about 1 week....i mean its rust - it was there when I was in warranty!

i drove straight to another dealership and talked to the service manager. He immediately got out the camera, snapped some pics and emailed them the Chrysler Corp as I was talking to him. It took 3 days, but they finally got the OK to replace them under warranty.

As will said, there are some good guys out there!

Ill be taking the SRT8 there from now on!
