Damage issues with 22"s. Please post.

I am about 90% sold on upgrading my stock 20"s to 22"s (probably Sevas Forged). My only big concern at this point is how fragile they might to be. My local tire/wheel guy said that I will definately have some type of wheel damage with 22"s and he recommended that I stick with 20"s.

I use my SRT as a daily driver and spend most of the time on CA freeways so the roads are not too bad but I'd hate to be in and out of the shop getting them fixed.

Please post any damage (or lack thereof) stories you might have with your 22"s

Thanks.

300cular, I Think If Its Your Daily Driver You Should Stick With The 20' But Then Again I Use Mine As A Daily Driver And I Have The 22' But Also, If You Go 22' And Dont Lower Your Car, You Can Still Get The Thicker Tires Like 265-35 And 295-30 For Your Car And Its Alot More Rubber For You

You will be fine on 22's. Tire guys, I am sorry to say, don't know there $hit. How many cars does he own on 22's with the actual tires you would run? They just say what they hear and blah blah blah. Its like the old guys who use to say 20s were pushing it and that you would bend your wheels. Many members on this forum run 22's daily and have for years since this place started in 04. The proof is right there with the numbers. Go with a 265/35 front and 296/30 rear and you will be fine. If you were to go with a 265/30 and 295/25, you would have to drive way more carefully due to the lower profile/sidewall of the tires.

If you're planning on going with the Sevas Forged wheels you shouldn't have any issues because it's a multi-piece wheel. When people do have problems with 22's is when they're one piece and weigh alot causing you to spend more on gas and the car has to work harder to make you go forward. In the case of a multi-piece wheel where it's lighter and according to the post by Wheel Executives they only weigh about 27lbs each it should be about the same as the stock wheel weight. Go with the 265/35/22 tire to give you more cushion on the road. That should solve your problem!!

I ride daily on 24" wheels and have never had any problems at all. You should never have any issues with 22"

The Sevas 1 piece (S10's) are 1.3kg heavier on the front and 2.4kg heavier on the rear.

I have noticed no increase in fuel usage. (Although it isn't really something I monitor very well - I just get in, drive, fill up and drive again.) )

Yes they will affect performance slighty but noting to worry about

265/35 on the front are perfect for a daily driver
295/30 on the rear are perfect for a daily driver
No difference in ride quality between 20's and 22's if anything I believe it improved it.

Mine is lowered and have no problems anywhere althogh when parking I take extra care with curbs/gutters.

Yes take care on rough roads, watch for potholes, although this would be exactly the same for your standard 20's as well. It all comes down to how carefull you are as a driver. You will always hear of people claiming that their 22's/24's caused them to have an accident or that they broke up on impact, but this probably would have happened on their standard rims. Take care as you always will and you will be fine.

Why do I say this.....I put my family (including newborn 10 weeks old) in the car and there is no way I would risk their lives if I thought the wheels would play a part in that.

Get the 22's! Mine is a multi-piece 22" wheel, the tires are 265/35's, and the car is a daily driver. They've been on the car almost a year with no issues whatsoever. Watch out for big potholes & railroad tracks and you'll be just fine. The trade-off more than makes up for itself in looks...

I'm riding 22"s with a 2" drop. I'm good unless I hit some bumps, dips, and waterways that will make the front wheel make contact with my fender, which causes a wave to the inside of my fender. So for the moment I use a hammer to smack the metal back straight, I tend to have to do this every 3 days or so. To remedy this, I'm suppose to "roll" my fenders in. Which I've been slacking to do for awhile now.

Also driving in So.Cal there is always some road constuctions. I avoid potholes, slow down on dips, and such. There's also big metal plates they sometimes use to cover the road for a bit, and I've driven over them slowly and cautiously, worrying about denting the wheels. But I dislike doing that sometimes cuz people behind me are probably thinking "WTF?!The hell he's braking for!" and ****. I've also just normally drive right over them before, and so far it feels alot smoother and ok than if I was to slow down for it.

So I'd have to agree with teamsevas300s about not lowering the car if it's a dailydriver and you don't wanna go thru any hassle's. The 22s holds up, but just keep in mind they're 22s and not offroad wheels and tires.
