Nails in tires

Has anyone noticed an increase in the number of nails you pick in the 300 compared to other cars you have driven ? I've picked up 3 in 6 months.

Is it true that you can just carefully pull the nail out and the tire should deal itself ? pending the nail is in the tread.

Well, I picked up a 12d scaffold nail all the way to the first head in my contiseals when I had them on.. sealed right up. So I guess it's more than my last car that didn't get any...

Must be where you drive for some reason..

Down here in South Florida, they have cut back on street sweeping quite a bit because of budget issues.

I have seen contractor's pickup trucks dump crap all over the road, particularly a pail of roofing nails. That road must have been a gas to drive over the next few days.

Imagine how many public works improvements could be done if we weren't spending a gazillion dollars "elsewhere."

I didn't pick up a nail, just a Torx driver tip:

It went straight in, tip first. I noticed the tire seemed a bit flat, so I looked for a reason and found it. I pulled it out and the tire sealed itself. The tire was down quite a bit in pressure, probably due to the piece working its way in and out as the tire rolled, and not giving the sealer a chance to seal well. I added some air and all was well. The tip was not one of mine. What are the odds of hitting one of them on the blunter end and having it penetrate the tire?
Eventually (at 24,795 miles) the entire set of Conti Self-Seals went into the trash in favor of Goodyear Comfortreads..............and a can of "Spare Tire" in the trunk!

I thought it was just my bad luck !!
In the first 3 weeks of getting my 05/ 300 I got a nail in the tire and then was ok for the rest of the time I had the car.
Well within the first 3 weeks of my 08 this time I got a screw in a tire.
Same wheel on both cars, makes you wonder.

I have picked up 5 nails in the last 6 mos. I am upset at this even though the tires have 14000 mi. I am afraid to by new F1s for fear of ruining them on the way home.

Glad to hear i'm not crazy, it really becomes a pain. There is ongoing construction near my home, so I do credit most of the problems to that.

Yea I just took in my rear driver's side tire to America's Tire to have them replace it under warranty. I intially only found one nail on the tire, but they told me I had two and that it needed to be replaced! So I feel your pain!

I've had at least six nails or screws in various tires in the last year, most recently last Friday. Don't know if it's something about the car or just where I live---lots of new construction going on.
