Question WHEEL NUTS: how many rotations?

how many complete rotations to you need when you fasten the wheel nuts in order to drive savely on 22s?

ive been told different things, anything between 3 and 6 complete rotations.
i get about 3 and a half on the front wheels, and a little bit more on the rear because the bolts are longer.
now some people told me its save, others told me its not. now i dont know what to do because i basically wanna avoid getting longer bolts because i'd have to change them again to the shorter ones in winter for my winter tires w/ 25 & 35mm spacers.

what you think?

i think, it is not measured in rotations, but tightness. i think there is some spec'd out force which has to be applied. at some point the applied force will not be enough to turn the nut anymore as it is tight enough. on some of pneumatic and electrical tools you can set the threshold. definitely you still have to confirm visually wheel was attached properly.

You need a minimum amount of thread engagement to hold the wheel on regardless of how right you make it. Generally it is about 3 threads. When you tighten the lugs they need to be torqued to 115 in-lb and then probably checked again after about 25 miles. After that you should check them about every 500 miles or so.

so if you say 3 threads its probably the same as 3 complete rotations of the nut, right?
i used a torque tool (dont know whats the correct name in english but its probably the same thing ricardo was talking about) at about 120 or 130 i think. i drove about 30 miles until so i'm about to check them tomorrow and tighten them if neccessary
