Wanting to put new tires on my 300C. Stock Rims. Trying to burn off the Continential junk that are on there right now, so i need something to replace them before winter rolls around. Also, i need a tire that's going to be good in the snow, rain, etc. But is also good for handling, sound, etc. What are some options? i have only looked a little bit and came up with 2 kinds of tires...Michelin Primacy MXV4's, and the Yokohama Advansy. thoughts on these 2?
Also, how big of a tire can you put on a stock rim? (how wide)
I'd like to know as well as I'm in the exact same position. I'd like to go wider as well perhaps to 245 width vs. the current 225. Also as the existing sidewall is pretty tall at 60, any issues with dropping it lower say to 50 or 40?
Thanks in advance.
Alex

I cant help you on the width but I have yokohama avid H4S on my car. I have only had it for just around a month and I really like the tires, plus they look good to. I live in Mi. and did some research and they should be good in the snow.
The max size you can put on the 300C Stock Rim is a 255-55-18.
Currently I am running 255-55-18 my last set was the BFG KDW's 245-55-18, I recomend both sizes.
Origanly I didn't think I would like the 255-55-18's but I must say it is pretty cool walking up to your car and seeing how wide those monsters look on the 300.
I have run both the KDW's, 245-55-18, and currently I have the Sumitomo, 255-55-18, on my car. The handleing and look of the car is great with the 255-55-18's.
The KDW's are a bit better in the rain then the Sumitomos but the KDW's wear out faster.
255/55/18 would be a larger diameter tire than stock, so your speed would be off as well as a penalty in acceleration.
Daytona Chargers come with 235/55/18 which gives a larger footprint and with the slightly smaller diameter should improve acceleration as well. That size would be my choice if I wanted a performance size tire for the stock wheel.
Between your tire choices, the Michelin Primacy would be my choice given its good reviews in CR. Don't expect a performance increase from them, but expect long life, low rolling resistance...which can mean an increase in fuel economy, low noise and handling on par with the stock Continentials or probably slightly better.
In the Yokohama brand, I like the AVID H4 and V4's. Either would provide better grip than the Michelin, plus they are low cost. Probably best bang for the buck tires out there for OEM replacement.
Depends on what your looking for in replacement tires.
I have "Bridgestone Potenza G 019 Grid" in the OEM size. Had them for almost a year and the ride very nice. I've been using Bridgestone's on my cars for years.
Those 255's look really wide in the video when just sitting unmounted. I didn't know you could go this big on the stock rims. Ya got me thinking here.
And now I can't wait for my tires to arrive even more now - 275/45/20's get here Friday. Really looking forward to it now.
So I'm thinking that I will be addicted to wide tires now and I'm planning on putting some winter tires on my stock 18's to just use for a couple of months per year. Can/should I go 255/55/18 winter tires on the stock wheels? I just don't know if the fact that they would be winter tires would change anything. I'd like to go as wide as possible since I will be driving 275's for most of the year.
And if so, any good recommendations for 255/55/18 winter tires? Thanks
I am juggling the same thought. Generally I thought thinner was better when it came to winter tires. Based on the information here using the 255/55/18 size you have a lot more choices when looking at tires. There are some light truck tires that are very aggresive looking but I am not sure if they will work. For instance the "Nitto Terra Grappler AT" light truck tires. Can these be used for winter on my 300C stock wheels.
Any help would be great as I have to pull the trigger in the next few days for tires. I am riding my donut right now.
Will any 255/55/18 tire fit the same or do some tires present a problem. Most of these tires are light truck tires. Will they all fit with no rubbing or drawbacks?
Big Kent, I have the same exact car as you. Nice choice!! Jade pearl is a great color.
P.S. The stock conti's are the worst tires I have ever owned. Already balding...
