Aren't those actually considered a light truck tire?
Yes, and yes they are an option sea, one member is running Pirelli light truck tires on his C and I think someone is using a Toyo trucker. Idiot DC selected an SUV size for our car, I will use a truck tire if it rides, handles, and is reasonable in the snow. I'll use a lawnmower tire if needed, gotta be better than the Contis. I am willing to try tires I never would have thought of before, General, Khumo, Cooper, and all sorts of off Broadway players.
The info I posted came from tirerack.com You may wish to call them to verify
You are right CAS, 41lbs, no way I am adding to the very suspect suspension/steering by piling on more unsprung weight. I was cornfused with the Micnelin MXM which is 33lbs, it got rather lackluster reviews. I am still stuck, why is is so hard to fing a good (not even great) tire.
Kings, I am going with the Kumho Ecsta SPT 235/50/18. A little smaller than OEM, but it seems like a good tire and a bargain @ $128. They will have a 245/50/18 in production in a month or two, which will be near identical to OEM in height.

235/60 is even closer if available. I am learning more about Kumho, did you ever think you would live to see the day you put a Korean made tire on your car?
The 235/60 (29.1") would be closer in size if the OEM was 28.6" as they should be, but they actually measure 28". The Kumho 235/50 is 27.3" making it closer in height to OEM. Also the Kumho's at 28 lbs. are slightly lighter than OEM.
As far as Korean products. My wife's Hyundai, Santa Fe has always been great for us. In terms of quality, I think Korea has made tremendous strides in the recent past. From what I understand, Kumho's have been race proven, and gaining a positive reputation. at any rate I feel the price justifies giving them a shot.
Rather than purchasing from Tire Rack, I am going with Discount Tires so I will have a satisfaction guarantee, as well as a pro-rated waranty, life time balance/rotation/road hazard ins. All for $142/ea. plus tax out the door ($612.02)

Wow, this forum is great, I calculated the size at 28.6 but never checked the actual OD and probably would not have (clueless or stupid?). That could make a huge difference in speedo and hitting that asinine bolt. I was all ready to give up on new tires, my Contis have 10K and show only modest wear, no cupping, no feathering, all even, good in the snow. I hate the ride though, the steering kicks about on bumps and the rear steps out on bumpy curves. I am going to look hard at the Kumho, Sears has them too. I sure hope it's the tires and not the E class suspension, from several other posts it seems to be the tires. I did not mean to bust the Koreans chops, just an interesting observation on how things change, if only MB could have the quality of Hyundai.
Looks like the Kumho is not for snow, the BFG KDWS AT 245/55 18 IS 28.5", I'll only buy them locally and check the bolt clearance.

Upon further review, I am sticking with the Contis for now. The reviews on the BFG were mixed, interestingly on heavy RWD (Impala SS and Marauder) cars the reviews were bad. I think it is safe to assume the 390 ft lbs of the C will not be friendly to these tires. By next spring, I hope to have some other choices.

I'm just hoping michelin will make the pilot sports in any size we can use. That, or the Bridgestone Turanza LS-V's
Has anybody taken a look at the Nokian tires WR 255/55/18's? They appear to have a good write up, but are very pricey here in Canada. $323.00 Cdn. per tire.
