GY Comfort Tread, Spectacular.

Anything over the stock self seal Conti is spectacular. Thanks for the PM CDG, I got the Goodyear Assurance Comfort Tread 225/60-18 installed today, WHAT A DIFFERENCE. The rear twitch/quiver on bumps (curve and straight) is 100% gone. The steering kick is 95% gone, it now drives like a normal car, the occasional steering kick is very infrequent and muted, just like my brother's Audi. I drove over rutted and broken pavement that would have the Contis jiggle the steering wheel so much it rattled my metal watch band, not so with these new tires.
I was all set to go with NRs recommended BFG KDWS (not his KDW2) but the superior snow and ice performance sold me on the GY and I do not plan on new snows. Also the GY has a 30 day trial and I can return them If I don't like them, yeah right, "would you please put my Contis back on".

I am sure the BFG handles better given it is a performance tire but the GY seems to handle as well as the conti which I never complained about. Freeway on ramps and around town moderately aggressively seemed no different from stock, the steering response is better and seems tighter. To my suprise the Contis were half worn at 11K, they looked way worse when off the car vis a vis the mini inspection I did proclaiming they looked pretty good.

My C now is smooth and quiet and no longer has that horrible crash when going over bumps, it is still no Buick (thankfully) but the suspension noise is now appropriate for the bump, very similar to my X5 or E Class.

I think the BFG would be a great choice if snow is not a concern (I know it is rated for "light snow", translated: keep your a$$ at home). The BFG would provide better handling at the expense of longevity and perhaps some smoothness. I will give up some handling to simply be able to go down the road and not have my fillings jarred loose or my watch damaged.

Bottom line, if you have these same issues with the C steering and suspension, getting rid of the Contis and replacing with anything would be an improvement, certainly could not be any worse. In the half a day I have had the GY, I love them, consider the basis from where I am starting though. I have been dealing with this crap for over a year and I feel liberated , I could not take any more of the ride harshness and steering kick. Time will tell how well these new GYs perform and to make sweeping conclusions now is a premature, one thing is sure though, the ride and steering are now smooth and normal.

Good to hear we have another alternative. I had replaced the rear tires due to excessive wear (how'd that happen?) with the conti non seals but probably would have gone with the GY had I known they were available in the proper size. Keep us posted on how they perforkm for you.

So far so good day three, I really like them, given how bad the Contis were a bicycle tire would be appreciated.

Dude...the quiver you described is exactly what I am feeling with my comfort treds. See my post in the Charger forum to see what I have been through. I still have a quiver/vibration in my tires and it looks like soon I'll be able to get Goodyear to replace all four tires.

I went through the same but in the end I think it really was my tie rods that where the issue. All is good now after inner & outer tie rods/steering rack replaced.

You may have a bad tire, I never had any shimmy . Mine simply kicked and bucked in the rear over bumps and the steering wheel kicked as well. It has been two years and they GY is as good as day one and the poor suspension design brought out by the Contis is corrected. If you have a shimmy, you might consider on the car balancing which solved the shimmy I had on my 87 300E.
