XenonDepots How-to

I just finished the installation of XenonDepots Xtreme HID's and wanted to post the steps on how to do it.

To start the installation, remove the air intake system. Use an 8mm socket to loosen the retainer around the throttle body. Next, remove the electronic connector just forward of the throttle body by sliding the red tab away from the junction and then pulling off. Just forward of the filter assembly is a 10mm bolt holding the filter housing to the cross member. Remove it and the whole intake system can be removed from the engine compartment.

More to come...

Remove the OEM lightbulb from its socket by turning it counter-clockwise. It is the bulb located closest to the fender well.

Twist in the new HID bulb into the socket. If it doesn't fit, loosen the torx head screws a few turns. Once the bulb is in retighten the screws. Next, mount the resistor, relay and starter. Personally, I mounted the relay to the front frame and the resistor to the fender wall, outboard of the power steering reservoir. It hides them well and the heat from the resistor can be dissepated by the inside fender metal.

There is a ground point located below the filter housing. Remove the 8mm nut and place the Black ground wire here.

Reinstall the air intake and filter assembly. Run the power lead and relay to the fuse box located on the passengers side of the engine compartment. There are two common ways to do this. You can remove the covers in front of the radiator and tie wrap the wire to the braces or you can run it along the wiring harness in back of the radiator top. For ease of explanation I ran it the latter.

The clips can be removed by using a flat blade screwdriver. The power lead can be placed in the clips along with the OEM harness. Do not connect the power, yet. Next, remove the passengers side light like you did on the drivers side. There is a ground point located below the light just like the drivers side. Connnect the ground. The ballast, starter and relays can be attached to the car using 3M tape. Here are a few examples:

The resistor is mounted to the fender well and connected to the white and black wires of the resistor.

Another place to mount the relay and excess wire is under the fuse box. The box can be tipped out of the way by manipulating the tab on the side. It is the one that is off center.

Remove the power nut under the red cap and attach the power leads at this time. If the cable is removed, the power leads can be located underneath as seen in the picture above. Once the wires are in place and everything is secured to the engine compartment it is time to try out the lights. Here is a picture showing the HID's on the left and the OEM's on the right.

If the lights flicker, revisit the resistor installation and make sure the wire insulation has been penetrated by the wire tap. The pictures don't do justice to the amount of light the HID's throw out.

Nice job Rich! Regarding the picture of the HIDS from in front of the car, I think your "left" and "right" are reversed... aren't they? The right (driver's side) looks like the HID.

Nice clear install... just like I was going to do it, although you picked better places for the relays and resistors. One thing I didn't see... where did you put the ballast on the driver's side?

I tie wrapped the ballast to the steel hydraulic lines running next to the radiator. You are right on the lights. I described it as if you were sitting in the drivers seat, but, I see your point. The blue light is the HID. I can't believe how much brighter the light is. Trust me, the camera doesn't do it justice. Thanks, Tim, Gary and Steve, for all the help, advice and laughter.DOOHH!!!!

LOL, we will keep that one between you and me.
Did you try or look at mounting the ballast and resistor from below like I did?

I mounted all the components from below.
When you look under the hood there is no evidence of hid install.
It's personal taste. I don't like anything showing underneath the hood.
I did some engine compartment modding and did not like wires and ballast/starter showing.
