180 T-stat & Fan adjustment

RE: 2006 300C SRT8

I have read quite a few posts on these subjects. I have not seen a "step by step" Install & Adjust guide.

I have been wrenching on cars for almost 50 years, but electronics is sometimes a foreign language to me.

The T-stat is pretty straight forward. Don't take the tank cap off, catch the fluid in the upper hose to reuse, unbolt and replace. Old School.

Can anybody provide a step by step on Fan Adjustment?

I have also been advised that messing with the T-stat really screws up the computer. I see a lot of posts that there have been no codes thrown, so I will assume this is a scare tactic.

It would also be helpful to get Part number/Mfgr for the various T-stats you have used, fit properly and work well without leaks.

Thanks

As far as I'm concerned the 180 Tstat is worth doing if that's the only thing you do. Adjusting the fans takes something aftermarket to do... there's not siagnostic menu EVIC settings that will affect the settings. So you either have to buy a fan-specific mod (there are several LX owners who have developed such mods before the Diablo Sport Predator came along)... or my recommendation would be to buy a Predator tuner because you get so much more for the price... way more than just fan adjustment capability.

So... do you have a Predator? If not... I would say that's the first step.

As for Tstats I've purchased mine at AutoZone and they are MotorRad 4128... about $16 as I recall. They don't come with the seal so be careful in removing the old Tstat and reuse the old seal.

See my photo gallery section. First name is... uh... Tim. I know... it's Goofy! LOL

In love with my first wife & first car ('68 Charger) ... still have the wife
but now there's the 300C Platinum and an Edelbrock SC Magnum SRT8!

Tim gave you the info needed on the T-Stat (MotorRad 4128). Changing it is as easy as you stated. However, changing the T-Stat alone offers limited, if any, benefit. You must also change the fan settings. As Tim stated, get yourself the DiabloSport Predator. Many benefits other than T-Stat fan settings. The Predator has three fan settings - low, med and high. As there is no Med setting in our rides, adjust it to the same as the high. I have mine at 185 low and 195 med and high. You will find many have slightly different settings, and it is all relative. Bottom line is at stock the fans are set in the 215-218 range. At 20-30 degrees cooler, you will get more performance from you car. GL!!

When you get the predator (because you should for your own happiness), make sure you toy with the fan settings to find the optimal adjustments for your area. I realized i've had mine pretty low 185 low and 190 high... in my area it can get hot so my high speed fan setting kicked on frequently. Running your high speed frequently will burn your fan out. I have judged my settings on the basis of... If I haven't put my foot in it and the high speed fan is on then my setting is way too low. If I put my foot in it and the high speed fan is on for a minute on an average summer day then I am on target.

TStat question

If you change the Tstat to the 180 spec, what happens when you have to return the tuning to Stock before any dealershio visits? Will this mess up the engine?

I was just looking at the diablo pdf file and it shows adjusting the "cooling fans AC off" it shows 6 fan settings, 3 for high mph and 3 for low mph.As well as " cooling fans AC on" with the 3 adjustments that most postings refer to (H,M,L settings). What are the cooling fans AC off settings about? are the needed?

Just adjust both AC 'on' and AC 'off' to the same values (HS/MS) and (LS).

I got the Jet brand 180 therm. It is twice as much as the MotoRad, but it has a gasket included plus no 'trimming' of the metal is needed.

T-stat upgrade - what, where, and how to - Cherokee SRT8 Forum
I'm not going to mess with the thermo or settings. It has minimal gains and not worth the hassel IMHO.
