Ok what did I miss here? R/T axles stronger than SRT? I know that the 09 chally and charger SRT axles and diff are tougher and LSD... But what gives on the R/T ones?

This is what I was told...over LX forums...

yea, for stock SRT dif of that year; the 09+ RT axles are a great upgrade.

you need axles and hubs. the hub side has a 31 spline instead of the small 28 spline ends we always broke.

I have these on my 06 300 SRT and put down 680 to the wheels, no problems.

So these axles are a direct swap for the stock SRT 3.06..
Pop out the stock axles, change the hubs, install the new axles and go?

Pre-09 cars have the following:

- SRT's have 215mm ring gear; RT's have 210mm ring gear
- SRT's have 3.06 gear ratio; RT's have 2.82 gear ratio
- open differential (non-LSD)
- weaker axles
- 28 spline hubs
- SRT's have 4 bolt driveshafts; RT's have 3 bolt driveshafts

The two things you want to upgrade are:

1. Weak Axles
- the post-09 axles are stronger (I'm not aware of one breaking)
- the post-09 axles are a drop in replacement but need the post-09 31 spline hubs
- the post-09 axles will work with the pre-09 open differential

2. Open Differential
- the post-09 differential is an LSD Getrag
- the post-09 differential has 226mm ring gear which should be a little stronger than 215 or 210
- the post-09 differential will work with the pre-09 axles
- pre-09 SRT's need to change to a 3 bolt driveshaft; pre-09 RT's can use the existing driveshaft
'09 Auto R/T Challenger axles have the beefed up hub end with the 215mm differential end for the 3.06 '05-'08 SRT's.

6-spd '09 Challenger R/T's got the Getrag unit with the full 226 axles.

The rest of your info looks good.

to me seems like a good way to keep the axles from breaking and pretty reasonable price...

I just popped on a Getrag setup. Erik at BFNY will sell you whatever you need, including hubs. Fair prices.

In a nutshell:

2009+ RT's (Chally, Charger, 300)
- rear diff changed to the 215mm (same one used in the pre-09 SRT's)
- the diff flange remains as a 4-bolt
- stronger axles; 28 spline at the diff, 31 spline at the hub
- these will bolt into pre-09 SRT's provided you get the 31 spline hubs

2009+ SRT's (Chally 6-speed, Charger, 300)
- rear diff changed to the 226mm Getrag
- the diff flange changed to a 3-bolt
- same stronger axles as the RT's except with 31 spline at the diff, 31 spline at the hub

1. Weak Axles
- the post-09 axles are stronger (I'm not aware of one breaking) These have been breaking.
- the post-09 axles are a drop in replacement but need the post-09 31 spline hubs Only true for the post-09 RT axles; post-09 SRT axles are 31 spline on both ends and won't boltin unless you get the Getrag too
- the post-09 axles will work with the pre-09 open differential This is because it's the same 215mm diff

2. Open Differential
- the post-09 differential is an LSD Getrag Only true for SRT and 6-speed Chally's
- the post-09 differential has 226mm ring gear which should be a little stronger than 215 or 210 The Getrag is 226mm; RT uses the old 215mm diff
- the post-09 differential will work with the pre-09 axles Only true for RT's
- pre-09 SRT's need to change to a 3 bolt driveshaft; pre-09 RT's can use the existing driveshaft

'09 Auto R/T Challenger axles have the beefed up hub end with the 215mm differential end for the 3.06 '05-'08 SRT's.

I posted the above bold on LXF... thanks for the props . Needs a couple of clarifications, in red.

If you're running 680 rwhp on the RT axles, you're on borrowed time. If you hook just right that power will break them.
