I am new this forum and this is my post but I had to ask for the most experience. The other day I had encounter a new Mustang Saleen which appears to be stock and from my knowledge most people I seen or know with those cars tend to keep them stock unless they got a lot of $$$. But anyways we were on the highway on a long strip four lane bridge. I see him tailing me and I waited to see if he was going to try to run. So I waited and used the tiptronic shifter put it in third to anticipate seeing if he was going to go. He was then next to me and all of the sudden he punched and wow he jumped like almost a car in a half to two cars. I kept using the shifter but then I shift until it was in normal drive when I did that I noticed I started to seriously gain some lengths on the Saleen and immediately caught to the back of his bumper that is when he slowed down and it seems like he didn't want to race anymore. So I want to know is the shifter actually better and does it move as quick as in normal drive and how fast are the 05-07 Mustang Saleens because his car was pretty quick?

SRT8's will kill a stock Saleen. He could have been in the perfect powerband and took advantage of his take off, but you most likely would have taken him.

I prefer to leave it in D and cruise at 80. ANYTHING comes up to me and I kill it. I just punch the gas and this car launches. It downshifts into 3rd and throws my head back.

Yes, I agree with topfuel67. At highway speeds, it would be an easy win for the SRT8 (stock vs. stock, of course). Depending on the speed where you start, the Saleen may take a brief lead, but the SRT8 will pull ahead in a little while. Rolling starts at speeds above 50 mph, the SRT8 will embarass most other cars. The Saleen is pretty quick from a standing start. With a good driver in the Saleen, on a short run from 0-60 or so, it would be very close. The RSAs that come stock on an SRT8 are not very good for drag racing, so the 0-60 outcome may depend largely on tires and driver experience. I've heard really good reviews of the Toyo Proxes on our SRT8s, and I will be getting them when my RSAs need to be replaced.

I thought our cars would be faster but wasn't sure so I had to do some research on the Saleen specs and I come to notice that they have different models or trends so to speak of Saleen Mustangs I know it was the latest body style and remembering and looking at the design of the Saleen I raced noticing the dual exhaust system was located in the center it appears to be a Saleen Mustang S281. And doing research on that trim I seen some impressive numbers but not sure if it is accurate I read it to be pushing out like 465hp but like I said I am not certain if that is an accurate number for that car and maybe you guys are right that our cars are faster than the Saleens but I know they have like 3 or more types of Saleen Mustangs. Thanks for the feedback and any know the chance of our cars against the S281 Mustang Saleen because I am 99.9% sure that is what I raced.

If it was the latest body style a 2007 Limited Edition is out, now there are apparently only about 500 of them. It has 400 HP and 390 lbft of torque. Is YOUR car stock or modified? That could be what you saw.

Unfortunately my car is stock for now I found this link to show you guys the exact car I raced unless this is a special model version of the S281 and thanks again for the feedback I don't know too much about the potential of my car and what it is capable of beating on the streets thanks again guys.

The SRT8 is strong but I think these stats are a little misleading since they're top gear acceleration numbers. In the test an auto in "top gear" will downshift when they gas it while a manual has to do it's run in it's actual top gear.

This makes the SRT8 look super fast compared to the manual tranny cars listed by this test number alone. Too bad though - I'd love to be 10 sec faster than a new Z06 between 30 and 50 mph. :biggrin:
