f you didn't reserve your 2008 Challenger SRT8 before they sold out, you might see it as a blessing in disguise.

Dodge is showing the full 2009 Challenger line at the New York auto show, including the SE and R/T models that join the SRT8 that was released in limited numbers for 2008.

Base SE versions are powered by a 3.5-liter V6 with 250 hp and 250 lb-ft of torque, connected to a four-speed automatic transmission. The mid-range R/T features an updated version of the 5.7-liter Hemi V8 with more power and a 5-percent improvement in fuel economy. Power jumps 30 hp over the previous motor to 370 hp and torque goes up 8 lb-ft to 398 lb-ft.

Dodge claims the R/T version of the retro-inspired muscle car will get to 60 mph in less than 6 seconds.

The big news for 2009 is that a six-speed manual transmission will be offered with the R/T and SRT8 trims--a first for the modern Hemi engines. All 6,400 2008 Challenger SRT8s will be shipped from the factory with five-speed automatic gearboxes.

Besides the manual transmission option, Dodge ups the ante for the SRT8 for 2009 with the addition of a standard limited-slip differential and tweaks to the suspension for better track prowess. Cosmetic changes include the additional of a pistol-grip shifter, black stripes and B5 Blue and TorRed paint options.

2009 Challengers go on sale this fall.
