Hi, First post here and I wish it wasn't under these circumstances.
I have had my car for 18 months with no issue. It's a 300C Luxury Diesel in Black. Love it!
Last week the car had to be towed away as the ETC light and check engine light came on.
The car started to splutter and shake also.
The stealer has advised that I have had contaminated diesel and the whole fuel system needs to be replaced, along with the injectors and an engine rebuild. As a bonus, the turbo also blew up.
Surprisingly, they quoted the massive amount of $40k AUD to fix the car.
I have lodged an insurance claim for the issue and they had the vehicle assessed and I was advised it will be a total loss. My policy covers full replacement within 24 months so I was happy about that but now the insurance company have rejected the assessors report and want the car examined by another specialist before they will make a decision on whether to repair or replace it.
Had anyone else had an issue similar with contaminated Diesel?
Does it sound like the dealer knows what he is talking about?
$40K AUD really? Does this seem right?
Any advice or guidance would be appreciated!
Cheers, Odin!

What was the contamination!!!!!
I've had experience of a 300C CRD with petrol in the diesel (not mine!) and after draining and flushing plus changing filters no damage was found

I don't understand how a turbo could be damage with contaminated fuel ?

Hey Petman, to be honest, I have no idea either.
I am only going on what the dealer has told me.
The fuel sample is away now being analyzed to determine what contaminant was in it. I'll post the findings as soon as I know.
With the turbo, who knows, the dealer started to say it was cause of the fuel issue until I pushed them for the reason it failed. They won't say but it will now be fixed under warranty if the car gets repaired.
